🎙️ Find Your Voice, Grow Your Network

This Tuesday, Speak To Lead Toastmasters Copenhagen hosts a joint session with Maritime Network of Women (M-NOW). M-NOW connects women across shipping, logistics and transportation, and they’re joining us to explore how speaking skills strengthen leadership. That means speaking with confidence and clarity, and engaging the people you lead.

🎯 Theme: Find Your Voice, Grow Your Network
💬 Word of the Day: Outreach

🎤 Prepared speeches
Theis: “You Are Not Alone”. His project focuses on using presentation slides to support a speech.
Ai-Cheng: “When Life Puts You in a Hood ...”. She returns to a humorous speech and builds in the feedback from her first delivery.

⚡ Table Topics
Dilwara leads the impromptu round. Speakers get a question on the spot and a minute or two to answer it. This is where most people find out they can think on their feet.

🧭 The team
Toastmaster of the day: Roberto
Opening and club business: Vlad
Evaluators: Vlad and Parth
General Evaluator: Anurag
Grammarian: Shais (Seth)
Timekeeper: Edith

👋 Guests are welcome. You can come to watch, or take a Table Topic if you’re curious.

🍂 Autumn at Speak To Lead

On Tuesday, autumn set the theme for the whole evening.
Edith was our Toastmaster, and her autumn presentation set the mood for the night.

🌳 Table Topics with a twist
sebastian brought a bag of leaves, seeds, roots, fruit and a piece of tree trunk. Each speaker picked one, and it led to a question to answer on the spot. Some simple objects ended up prompting thoughtful, personal answers.

🎤 Prepared speeches
Shais M. (Seth) looked closely at his own leadership style and finished with a funny example about communication and diffusion of responsibility.

Theis spoke on “Why Am I Like This?”, he talked about different people in his life and how they shaped his personality and he was also our Timekeeper ⏳ of the day.

Bugra talked through his experience of looking for a job in Denmark: “Seeking a job: Let’s talk about it.” A personal story.

🧭 Evaluations
Vlad, Anurag and Ai-Cheng gave each speaker clear, useful feedback. Roberto was our General Evaluator, and Budi kept an eye on our language as Grammarian and Norkka was the Ah counter of the day. Thank you all.

🏆 Awards
Best Speaker: Bugra
Best Evaluator: Anurag
Best Table Topics: Vlad and Ai-Cheng(tie)
Congratulations to all! 👏

Next week we’re back with more stories, more feedback and more practice especially hosting M-NOW community as our guests.

You are welcome as well to join us.

🎉 Eight Years Young

On Tuesday, Speak To Lead Toastmasters Copenhagen celebrated eight years with an anniversary meeting. The theme, "Eight Years Young", was chosen by our Toastmaster of the Evening, Seth (Shais).

The club has some history now, but every week someone still stands up and tries something new. We celebrated the evening with cake 🎂 and a history video of our club evolving through years prepared by Anurag.

sebastian presented "Making Ordinary Days Memorable", working on how voice and body language shape a message.

Roberto gave a talk on feedback which he knows well and then took live questions from the audience. Thinking on your feet in a Q&A is a skill every presenter needs.

💬 Table Topics

Bugra led Table Topics, where speakers answer a question with no preparation. Congratulations to our guest Mohammad, who won Best Table Topics. 🏆

🙌 Thank you to the team

🎉 Eight Years Young!

Next Tuesday, Speak To Lead Toastmasters Copenhagen turns eight. 🥳

Our club has some history now, but every week someone still stands up and tries something new.

The theme for the evening is "Eight Years Young", set by the Toastmaster of the Evening, Shais (Seth).

If you've been curious about Toastmasters, an anniversary evening is a good first visit. Guests are welcome and there's no pressure to speak.

🎤 Prepared speeches

Roberto gives a talk on a subject he knows well and then takes live questions from the audience. Answering questions on the spot is one of the hardest parts of presenting, and you'll see how he handles it.

sebastian presents "Making Ordinary Days Memorable", with the focus on how voice and body language shape a message.

Bugra leads Table Topics, where anyone in the room can take a short, unprepared question. Guests are welcome to try one.

General Evaluator: Theis
Grammarian: Shinya

🍂 Equinox: A Moment of Balance

Meeting 390 at Speak To Lead, and the theme came from our Toastmaster for the evening, Bugra. Balance, and how briefly it holds. He carried it through the night and set up every segment against it. ⚖️

The prepared speeches:

🎤 Raqibul, "Stories and Lessons", on leadership style. A run of stories, one lesson drawn from each.

🎤 Shais (Seth), "Two Tigers", second version. The project asks you to take a speech you have already delivered, absorb what the evaluation told you, and give it again.

Roberto evaluated Shais, and as usual it was one of the sharpest. Shinya evaluated Raqibul's speech.

Then the part of the evening nobody saw coming. 🎭 Ai-Cheng took Table Topics and rebuilt it.

Before we started, everyone wrote three things on three separate slips of paper: two emotions, and one line, a quote or a phrase of their own. All of it went into the pile.

Six questions followed, every one of them about transition. Fitting, given the theme.

Here is the twist. Partway through answering, the speaker reaches for a slip and opens it. Whatever emotion is written there, they take on.

Whatever line is written there, they work in. No warning, no preparation, and they were already speaking unprepared to begin with.

It was genuinely funny to watch and considerably harder to do. Thinking on your feet is one skill. Changing emotional register mid-sentence, on a stranger's instruction, is another one entirely.

🏆 The Table Topics award ended in a tie, to Roberto and Riccardo.

Thanks to the TAGG team who keep the evening honest: Anurag as General Evaluator, sebastian as Ah counter, Budi as Grammarian, and Søren on the clock. 🙏

Next Tuesday, 29 September, Speak To Lead turns 8. 🎉 Eight years of people walking in nervous and leaving with something they did not have before. Come and celebrate with us. Visitors welcome, no speaking required, just show up. 👋

🌟 Member Spotlight: Ievgen (Eugene) Boturchuk 🌟

Meet Ievgen (Eugene) Boturchuk, our former Club Operations Manager, who for the past year helped create the structure, welcome, and flow at every Speak to Lead meeting!

Ievgen brings precision, steadiness, and reliability to the club. He helps ensure guests feel welcome, that the room is ready, and that the meeting begins with the right energy. His contribution reflects the Toastmasters values of Service and Excellence: showing up consistently, supporting the group, and helping create a professional environment where others can grow.

“For me, Toastmasters is a place where communication, structure, and teamwork come together. I enjoy contributing to the club behind the scenes and helping create an environment where others feel welcome and ready to speak. Speak to Lead has helped me practise not only public speaking, but also presence, organisation, and leadership through consistency. It has shown me that even practical roles can build confidence and help others feel more comfortable taking their own first steps.”

Professionally, Ievgen is a Test System Engineer with an interdisciplinary background in physics, chemistry, materials science, electronics, and quality-focused engineering. He combines scientific depth with clear communication and a strong interest in project management, product development, and continuous learning.

Speak to Lead brings together professionals, students, danes, and internationals who want to practise communication in a supportive, structured setting while gaining leadership experience, practical feedback, and networking opportunities.

Guests are always welcome to attend our meetings free of charge. We are announcing the exact dates on this page, so make sure to follow it at Speak to Lead Toastmasters - CPH!

Live soundtrack 🎵, Tigers 🐯 and table topics — that was Speak To Lead last night!

Anders brought the theme to life as Toastmaster of the Evening, complete with a live speaker playing music between every hand-over.

🎤 Shais(Seth) opened with "Two Tigers," a personal speech drawing a parallel between his own life and his daughter's, both born under the tiger sign, and the very different circumstances they've each grown up in. 🐯

🎤 Norkka followed with an engaging look at communication styles.

sebastian and Ai-Cheng evaluated both speeches.

Thanks to Budi for his creative table topic items, it ended in a tie, with Shais(Seth) and Riccardo sharing the win 🏆 , congrats to both! 👏

Great speeches, great music, great club.

🙌 Guests are always welcome at Speak To Lead, come try public speaking with us.
