🌟💙 This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Auke Lootsma, UNDP Resident Representative for , to the UN City Copenhagen.

The visit provided an important opportunity to meet with our Danish partners and key stakeholders to discuss the situation in Ukraine and how we through joint efforts support recovery, resilience, and reconstruction on the ground.

This included meeting with the State Secretary for Development Policy, Elsebeth Søndergaard Krone, Danish NGO’s, researchers as well as UNDP staff who are supporting our colleagues on the ground in Ukraine.

In partnership with , UNDP is addressing urgent needs while advancing long-term recovery across key areas such as:

🌟 Local and area-based recovery, rebuilding homes, schools, hospitals, and expanding stable and green energy solutions to power communities.
🌟 Clearing rubble, removing landmines, creating new jobs, and reopening vocational training centres to restart local economies.
🌟 Digital governance, supporting war veterans and persons with disabilities, fighting corruption, and protecting human rights for an inclusive, sustainable recovery.

We wrapped up the day with a special screening of “Land of Silence”, a documentary shedding light on one of the most urgent yet overlooked challenges in Ukraine: landmines and explosive remnants of war.

The evening opened with remarks by Marie-Louise Wegter, Director for Humanitarian Action and Civil Society, Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by a conversation between H.E. Andrii Yanevskyi, Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark, and Auke Lootsma, UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine. The discussion highlighted the crucial role of mine action in Ukraine; for farmers, for safety, and for long-term recovery.

Thank you for your steadfast support. 🇩🇰🇺🇦🤝

🔹Great interest in UNDP’s 2025 Human Development Report, launched today in the UN City Copenhagen!🔹

Artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing at lightning speed. Yet as AI surges forward, human development is stalling. For the fourth year in a row, the 2025 Human Development Report highlights widening inequalities between rich and poor countries. 📉

At the launch, the report’s lead author and Director of the UNDP Human Development Report Office, Pedro Conceição, explored with our panel of experts — Professor Rebecca Adler-Nissen (University of Copenhagen) and Senior Researcher Maria-Louise Clausen (DIIS) — whether and how artificial intelligence can become human development’s greatest opportunity or greatest challenge.

🌟The message — and hope for the future — was clear: we must reclaim our choices and not allow technology to determine our future, but instead shape a future where AI actively supports and advances human development.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is racing ahead at lightning speed. Yet as AI surges forward, human development stalls. For the fourth year in a row, the 2025 Human Development Report -“A matter of choice: people and possibilities in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)" report finds widening inequalities between rich and poor countries. Amidst challenges, the report explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) could reignite development.

At the launch, the report's lead author and Director of the UNDP Human Development Report Office, Pedro Conceição, will present the main conclusions and recommendations from the report. Together with a number of experts, they will reflect on how artificial intelligence can become human development's greatest opportunity - or challenge.

Last week, we welcomed Jaco Cilliers, Resident Representative for to . The visit was an opportunity to meet with our Danish partners and key stakeholders to discuss the current situation in Ukraine and how collectively we best support recovery, resilience, and reconstruction efforts in the country.

With support from , UNDP is addressing urgent needs while advancing long-term across three key areas:

✅Reconstruction — rebuilding homes, schools, hospitals, and expanding stable & green energy solutions to power communities.
✅Recovery — clearing rubble, removing landmines, creating new jobs, and opening vocational training centres to restart local economies.
✅Reform — working with government institutions to advance digital governance, support war veterans & people with disabilities, fight corruption, and protect human rights for an inclusive, long-term recovery where no one is left behind.
