🌟💙 This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Auke Lootsma, UNDP Resident Representative for , to the UN City Copenhagen.
The visit provided an important opportunity to meet with our Danish partners and key stakeholders to discuss the situation in Ukraine and how we through joint efforts support recovery, resilience, and reconstruction on the ground.
This included meeting with the State Secretary for Development Policy, Elsebeth Søndergaard Krone, Danish NGO’s, researchers as well as UNDP staff who are supporting our colleagues on the ground in Ukraine.
In partnership with , UNDP is addressing urgent needs while advancing long-term recovery across key areas such as:
🌟 Local and area-based recovery, rebuilding homes, schools, hospitals, and expanding stable and green energy solutions to power communities.
🌟 Clearing rubble, removing landmines, creating new jobs, and reopening vocational training centres to restart local economies.
🌟 Digital governance, supporting war veterans and persons with disabilities, fighting corruption, and protecting human rights for an inclusive, sustainable recovery.
We wrapped up the day with a special screening of “Land of Silence”, a documentary shedding light on one of the most urgent yet overlooked challenges in Ukraine: landmines and explosive remnants of war.
The evening opened with remarks by Marie-Louise Wegter, Director for Humanitarian Action and Civil Society, Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by a conversation between H.E. Andrii Yanevskyi, Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark, and Auke Lootsma, UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine. The discussion highlighted the crucial role of mine action in Ukraine; for farmers, for safety, and for long-term recovery.
Thank you for your steadfast support. 🇩🇰🇺🇦🤝
