See you in Copenhagen this autumn 🍁

This weekend’s Yaji gathering took place in a bright, open library space, and we were happy to welcome a few new musicians.

We sat in a circle, each sharing a piece we’ve been working on recently.

This time we played a couple of guqin ensemble pieces and even started rehearsing a p**a ensemble. As more friends and more instruments come together, the possibilities keep growing. Different combinations, new repertoire, and music we can create together.

This year, Yihe Qin Society has grown beyond guqin into a broader community for traditional music, and we’ve also welcomed a new co-host.

If you’re in Copenhagen and play guqin, p**a, guzheng, xiao, ruan, or another Chinese instrument, we’d love to have you join us.

Qing Shu (Summer Cool) Yaji Gathering

It‘s been a while since our last concert, and things have been rather quiet.

This summer, we’d like to start gathering again and open the circle a little wider. While Yihe Qin Society began with guqin, this gathering is for anyone who enjoys Chinese traditional music.

Whether you play guqin, p**a, xiao, ruan, guzheng, or another Chinese instrument, you‘re warmly welcome.

The idea is to form a relaxed music community.

No stage, no formal performances, no pressure. Bring your instrument, share a piece or two if you feel inspired, listen to others, exchange ideas, or simply enjoy the atmosphere.

✨ On July 2nd, Yihe Qin Society and Taoyuan Qin Society (Germany) co-hosted a Guqin concert at KoncertKirken in Copenhagen.

It was the Danish debut for all three musicians. The evening began with the meditative Pu’an Incantation — as the soft sound of a wooden fish echoed through the church, the audience of over 80 fell into stillness. A Buddhist melody in a Christian space — unexpectedly harmonious.

Both Li Pengpeng and Yang Lining delivered powerful solo performances. Li’s Flowing Water was steady, fluid, and breathtaking. In the second half, she joined German pianist Peter Waas in a rare Guqin–piano fusion — beautifully arranged and surprisingly organic.

Zhuang Xinru of Yihe Qin Society also performed the haunting piece Song of Chu.

The church was nearly full, with many Danes hearing the Guqin for the very first time. Some were amazed by the length and memorization of the pieces; others asked, “How can an instrument and its music survive for over a thousand years?”

This is exactly why we do this — to create encounters across time and cultures, and let more people hear the timeless voice of this ancient Chinese instrument.

Guqin masters Li Pengpeng and Yang Lining will perform together for the first time in Copenhagen, bringing a rare and intimate concert of this ancient Chinese art form.

Li Pengpeng performed for French President Emmanuel Macron in 2023, and Yang Lining — a recipient of France’s Diapason d’Or — will be presenting her award-winning artistry in the Nordic region for the very first time.

Alongside traditional guqin solos and duets, the concert will also feature a special fusion performance with Peter Waas, piano professor at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Germany, exploring new musical dialogue between East and West.

📍 Join us on July 2 at Koncertkirken for an evening where 3,000 years of heritage come alive in sound.

The last gathering was an unexpected delight for us. In the small tea room, we were deeply touched by the friends who travelled all the way from Sweden and Jutland 🌍✈️. Each friend played their favourite pieces 🎶 and shared their experiences. On that rainy day 🌧️, those who came were true lovers of the instrument 💖.

We also met new friends who, by chance, discovered this mysterious Eastern instrument and showed great interests . We were more than happy to share our passion with them 😊.

We are already eagerly looking forward to the next gathering 🎉!
