Last weekend, YATA Denmark attended the Nordic Security Conference - NorSec 2026, organized by YATA Norway in Oslo. This intensive weekend highlighted geopolitical tensions, shifting power dynamics, security cooperation, and the future of diplomacy. Our Danish delegation, consisting of engaged members, represented YATA Denmark throughout the weekend’s discussions and networking sessions.
On the first day of the conference, we were delighted to hear a keynote speech from Espen Barth Eide (Minister of Foreign Affairs, Norway) regarding shifting power dynamics and Norway’s role within them, followed by an in-depth interview with Chris Herrmann on the United States as a changed actor. The day also featured three panel discussions on multipolarity in practice, security cooperation, and lessons learned from the war in Ukraine.
The second day kicked off with a keynote speech from Julie Wilhelmsen about the Russian state and the changing world order. We also heard from Serafima Andreeva regarding the Arctic as a geopolitical main stage, and engaged in a one-on-one talk with Kai Eide about the future of diplomacy. Additionally, two panel discussions focused on security cooperation, disinformation, hybrid threats, and diverging interests.
The conference concluded with a motivational closing speech by Ingrid Gjerde (Chief of the Norwegian Defence Staff).
A huge thank you to YATA Norway for organizing such a high-level forum for discussing the complexities of a fragmented world, and for the invaluable opportunity to connect with colleagues from 27 different countries. We return to Denmark with fresh perspectives and vital insights for navigating modern security challenges.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at the next NorSec!
