WHAT DOES MCDONALDS ACTUALLY THINK ABOUT PLATFORM WORKER'S SOCIAL RIGHTS?

McDonald’s loves using delivery to drive their profits, but when it comes to courier rights? They completely wash their hands of us.

By treating platforms like Wolt and Uber Eats as mere "mediators," McDonald's gets all the benefits of McDelivery without taking any corporate social responsibility for the people actually carrying the food. They hide behind legal loopholes so they don't have to comply with labor regulations or ensure fair pay.

Worse, through industry groups like HOTREC, McDonald’s actively lobbies to water down the EU Platform Work Directive. They claim enforcing proper employment models will "hurt worker earnings" and raise costs. But we're already dealing with starvation wages while delivering orders worth way more than what we get paid.

They push a model where algorithms set prices, deactivate workers arbitrarily, and deny basic rights—all so they can protect their bottom line. Blocking them last Friday sent a clear message: we see right through the corporate spin, and we aren't accepting "Mc-exploitation" anymore

Couriers have blocked McDonald’s on Falkoner Allé, halting operations entirely.

McDonald’s claims to uphold the Danish Model, yet uses Wolt to exploit platform workers—mostly migrants—under the guise of bogus self-employment. Supply chain accountability matters: McDonald’s is complicit in this exploitation.

We will not deliver until couriers get the justice and rights they deserve.

The Wolt strike committee has informed us that they are calling for a strike today at McDonald's on Falkoner Allé in Frederiksberg at 16:00. They are asking all couriers in Copenhagen to join the strike and urge every courier to reject or cancel orders from this restaurant. This is a response to low delivery pay, poor app maintenance and difficulty in cancelling orders, and a lack of rights and protections that couriers have endured for too long.

Imagine you go to work to drive a scooter around Copenhagen, and a car rams you so hard your vehicle ends up looking like this. Now imagine this happens and you end up in the hospital, lose weeks of work, and go through months of pain. Then imagine all that, but you receive zero compensation from your employer because you are not considered an employee and you are not covered. Not even one bit.

Well... Nazmul, a Wolt courier who came to our Wednesday consultation today, doesn't have to imagine any of this. For him, it’s the reality he’s been living through. Meanwhile, Wolt continues to dodge employer responsibility, fighting court claims that they should cover the people delivering food in their uniforms when accidents happen.

Thank you to everyone who joined today's barbecue. Around 20 couriers came together to discuss the future of working conditions at Wolt.

The reality is becoming increasingly difficult. The self-cancellation feature still does not work as intended, orders continue to decline, and many couriers are facing an uncertain future where platform work may no longer provide a sustainable income. These are no longer isolated problems—they are signs of a system that is failing the people who keep it running.

After today's discussion, we agreed that it is time to seriously explore the possibility of taking collective action once again, including the option of another strike. But before any decision is made, we need to hear from as many couriers as possible. The strength of any action depends on the collective will of those affected.

This Wednesday at 13:00, we will hold a new assembly to discuss what could become the most important decision we have faced so far. Together, we will define our concrete demands and decide how we respond to Wolt's direction.
