POST Design Festival

POST Design Festival Design practice can profoundly affect the quality and rhetoric of the visual future. Join us!

POST is a platform for challenging the place of visual culture and communication in society, addressing the ethics of design, the politics of image-making, and the unknowns of the creative future However, illustrators and graphic designers of all kinds work in a highly politicised environment and as a result are struggling to put their principles first. They must make daily decisions about which c

lients to work for, where to present their works, what fees to charge, whether to work pro-bono and if to use interns’ subsidised labour to expand output. All these pressing real-world concerns are obscuring design’s greatest mission – to create a better world. POST presents talks, debates and workshops with some of the most progressive voices in the industry today in order to facilitate this powerful conversation. Speakers will explore the personal and political aspects of their work, debates will tease out the realities of personal and commercial practice and workshops will allow participants to explore new approaches to creation and communication. By bringing people together POST will create an environment of encouragement and inspiration for students, practitioners and educators.

Maybe it’s because we have big ambitions and can be a little cheesy that a parallel with the moon seems appropriate, but much like the aspirational rock, the members of our POST team also seem to wax and wane. 🌝 A year and a half ago, POST was just two people with a sea between them. By that spring, we were seven.

Peter Folkmar, Bethany Rigby, Kaiu Meiner, Alba Carbajo Cano, Georgina Norris, Lucas Feldstedt, and Filip Grønning. Designers, an architect, a strategist, a student. Different practices, same stubborn belief that design deserves better conversations.

That team put on Design After Design last September. Since then, we have grown smaller again, but haven’t stopped: the essays from the open call are on the editing desk right now, being read, pondered over, and shaped for publication.

Thank you also to , , and .cph for making September possible.

The first ones land soon. Newsletter subscribers read them first. 🗞️

The talks from last September are long behind us, but we still find ourselves digesting some questions they raised. 🍎

Stanza, a collective of five practitioners, made the case for a studio built on nearness and generosity instead of growth, why can’t more of us work like that?

Silvio Lorusso is always asking questions, but the one that’s stuck with us most is what happens to the future once AI starts filling in for our imagination of it.

Stan de Natris from Slavs & Tatars showed how humour and ornament can carry real political weight without tipping into caricature, is there space for more ornamentation in the Danish design context too?

Marisa Cohn from ETHOS Lab proposed obsolescence as a form of collective amnesia, but how much of “innovation” is really just permission to forget faster?

Thank you, Stanza, Silvio, Stan, and Marisa for the questions we’re still chewing on. More of that thinking is coming: the first essays from last year’s open call, Design After Design, land soon. Sign up to our newsletter so you don’t miss them. 👀🗞️💌

We took our time with this one, but a cold winter and a full spring later, we’re still thinking about the festival last September. 🌝

Not just the talks, though those were exactly what we hoped for, but the people. The way a room full of curious creatives can make an uncertain future feel a little more positive.

Thank you to everyone who came and shared the weekend with us. It meant more than we can say in a caption. 💚
