Alongside Back Pain Week this week and World Spine Health Day on the 16th October, we're focusing on back pain, which is often the reason that people seek out lessons in the Alexander Technique. Back pain causes long-term absence in the workplace, and almost half the adults in the UK suffer lasting lower back pain once a year.
While many seek relief in medication or physical therapy, studies have shown that Alexander Technique lessons give relief from pain lasting for a year or more.
This is because learning what causes back pain in yourself helps you to tackle its habitual causes, so that you change the way you live.
There are teachers all over the UK and you can try a lesson with no obligation. A course of six is recommended to make a difference to back pain, but there is no limit on lessons which can deliver improvements in your general health and wellbeing.
If you are interested in learning the Alexander Technique, you can find a qualified teacher near you by using the Find a Teacher page on The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) website - link in bio. STAT is the world's oldest and largest professional body of Alexander Technique teachers and STAT teachers have completed a three-year full-time training course and adhere to a code of professional conduct and standards.
