Results and Closure of the Upwork Europe Project: Promoting Social Inclusion and Diversity in Vocational Education and Training
After two years of intense collaborative work, the UPWORK project reaches its final phase, consolidating itself as a European reference initiative in promoting social inclusion and diversity within the hospitality, catering, and event management sectors, with special attention to people with special needs.
Since its launch in December 2023, with the kick-off meeting held in Novara (Italy), and through to the most recent activities in 2025, the project team — composed of FO-Aarhus (Denmark), CSCI (Italy), GUREAK (Spain), STELLA VIRIUM (Poland), and OLOKLIROSI (Greece) — has worked jointly on the development of tools, training materials, and digital resources aimed at improving the skills, employability, and autonomy of Special Needs Learners (SNLs) across Europe.
Main Results
Throughout the project, significant achievements have been made that contribute to strengthening inclusive vocational education and training:
✅Design of the Digital Curriculum, a flexible and accessible training proposal adapted to the needs of learners with disabilities or specific learning needs.
✅Development of the Online Learning Platform, available in five languages (Spanish, Italian, Danish, Greek, and Polish), offering training pathways in hospitality, catering, and event management.
✅Implementation of a micro-credential system (Open Badges) to recognize and validate the competences acquired by participants.
✅Research on 18 European best practices in the employment inclusion of people with cognitive disabilities, conducted across five countries.
✅Participation of over 60 learners in national pilot programs, who completed their training and obtained digital certifications.
✅Publication of the UPWORK E-book, which gathers the main results, lessons learned, and recommendations developed throughout the project.

In addition, the consortium has published three newsletters documenting the project’s evolution, milestones, and key outcomes:
💌Newsletter 1 – Introduction to the project, partners, and initial objectives.
💌Newsletter 2 – Training of trainers and progress in the development of the learning platform.
💌Newsletter 3 – Final results, website launch, and dissemination of achievements.
We invite all individuals, organizations, and trainers to explore the platform, test the learning pathways, and take advantage of the available micro-credentials. Each resource has been designed to be accessible, practical, and inclusive, with the goal of improving skills, autonomy, and opportunities for those who need them most.
