Solidarity with Kærshovedgård

Solidarity with Kærshovedgård English-speaking non-profit organization. Aarhus for Solidarity’s work focuses on asylum seekers in Danish deportation and asylum centers.

Our organization has two main goals: fostering solidarity towards refugees and spreading awareness about migration. First, we support rejected asylum seekers in Denmark by creating activities with them inside and outside asylum and deportation camps, in particular in Kærshovedgård Deportation Center. We want to establish genuine human connections with people excluded by society regardless of their

status. We wish to support them in their everyday life and satisfy a basic human need for interaction. Secondly, we aim to be a platform for discussion of social issues, to expose the local population to the problems asylum seekers have to face. We actively participate in demonstrations, lectures and presentations which aim to support asylum seekers in Aarhus and in the rest of Denmark. In the last five years, our team of volunteers from all over the world has been carrying out activities based on 4 key values: independence, humanity, impartiality as well as privacy and confidentiality. On 16 April, the Danish flag was raised at Kærshovedgård, marking the birthday of former Queen Margrethe II.

That same day, residents and volunteers took part in a rubbish collection around the detention centre and nearby areas, including Bording.

Six bins were filled, part of ongoing efforts to maintain shared spaces.

Once again, we are asking for your help to raise funds for dentures for residents.

Below is yet another urgent example. This resident has only four teeth left ! in the lower jaw — all in poor condition. As a result, what he is able to eat is extremely limited, directly affecting his health and daily functioning.
Below is a medical statement:
“For approximately five years, the patient has had no teeth except for four scattered in the lower part of the mouth. There are no teeth in the upper jaw, making it impossible for him to chew food. As a result, his diet is extremely monotonous and consists mainly of softened toast and overcooked meals. He consumes very few vegetables.
X is also experiencing an increased metabolic rate and requires a regular, balanced diet, which he is currently unable to maintain. Therefore, it is essential to provide dentures so he can regain the ability to chew and return to a healthy and varied diet.”

Despite this clear medical need, the authorities have refused to cover the cost of dentures.
The consequences are not only physical, but deeply undignified.
We ask you to judge for yourselves how humane this is — and, if you can, to help us change it.

New solution at the Kærshovedgår - looks like there is being established little prison inside the existing prison? 🤔
New carrousel entrance is being build as a new entrance to buildings H and G - which are hosting primarily residents on tolerant stay (tålt ophold).
Is this a consequence of latest disturbances or its because the gate been broken, as we heard 🤔
We are looking forward to hear from administration more about this solution.

Message from Valerii: (Dansk nedenfor)

To the Danish people and the members of the Danish Parliament,
I am writing this because I have recently discovered a truth that fills me with shame and disbelief. I live in the Kærshovedgård Departure Center. I am not allowed to work, I am not allowed to study, and I am not allowed to be the father my family needs. I feel like I am being deprived of the right to be a human being.
But the most absurd thing is the price of this isolation. According to official figures, the Danish state spends between 250,000 and 350,000 kroner per year on monitoring me. That is a staggering amount of money – in fact, it is more than my family of three has to live on together while they try to build a life in Denmark.
Why is Danish taxpayers' money being spent on keeping me passively isolated, instead of letting me contribute to society? How can you justify that monitoring one person costs more than the survival of an entire family?
I am ashamed of my family and the Danish people for this injustice. I do not want so much money to be spent on me. I want to be able to support myself and my loved ones. I call on the responsible authorities to reconsider these expenses and stop this financial and human waste.

Sincerely,
Valerij Martenenko

Jeg skammer mig over for min familie og over for det danske folk over denne uretfærdighed.

Valerij Martenenko

Both Monday and Tuesday at KHG were marked by big amount of disturbance. Some of the residents reacted with frustration to the situation they are being put into. On Monday, a group of residents went on strike, banging objects against each other and making noise and a huge police presence arrived on the site.

In connection with the upcoming parliamentary elections in Denmark (March 24th), KHG seems to be a very fashionable and hot topic in the media. We can see that numerous articles appear daily in various media outlets, and interviews are being conducted with various residents.

Red Cross has canceled activities, including our volunteer (activity leaders) meeting, which was scheduled for yesterday.

Frustration is growing, and still there's no help in sight.

Yesterday, in Politiken, was published a powerful article based on interviews with seven former Red Cross employees who used to work at Kærshovedgård.
The article raises issues that also concern us – people who visit the center regularly.
What we see are people with addictions, mental issues and development disorders being trapped at the camp without any reasonable help. Now situation has been clearly confirmed by former employees.

"There are 232 people living in Kærshovedgård. 155 are estimated to have some form of drug abuse. Hardcore criminals with gang connections live there, but also old and weak people, and some are mentally re****ed. Around 35 are rejected asylum seekers who have not committed any crime other than being rejected or having violated the obligation to report. "

Further the article describes a daily life at the camp marked by violence, threats and other crime. We can read:
"There are residents who pr******te themselves by posing or giving a bl***ob. It's their way of paying off debt."

"Many have become drug-free during their sentence, but the substance abuse environment at Kærshovedgård means that they quickly fall back into substance abuse again."

"Young men who have not previously been involved in crime experience pressure to join various groups and to commit crimes in the center and outside. "

Some have to live in daily fear, as they are forced to live next door to or in a room with a person who threatens them.

Here another of the voices of residents - Hamed:

Escape from Hell to Hell

My name is Hamed, and I am from Sudan. I fled the horrors of war in Sudan, hoping to reach my destination. On that journey, I used forged papers.

This was the second phase of the hell that awaited me here in Denmark.
It began with 40 days of imprisonment and being described as a danger to Danish society.
My asylum interview took place behind bars, and from there I was transferred to the greater hell, Kærshovedgård, where all human values stand powerless before its gates.

No one can imagine what we experience in that place: fake freedom, psychological torture, deprivation of rights, and an apartheid system.

No proper healthcare: Sometimes they ask you to wait for days to receive treatment, and other times they ask you to buy medication with your own money.
No good food: Bad meals are served to us, and sometimes they are rotten. Most residents suffer from stomach problems because of the food.
The chef meets with us every three months to ask residents about the things that pain them. The residents speak, hoping he is there to help, but unfortunately, the purpose of the question was to find out where the pain is so they can pressure it.
It is systematic psychological torture carried out under the auspices and blessing of the Danish government.

Living there is nearly impossible, but the options are death, death, or death.
Returning to your country and dying with dignity is the option the government prefers, and they even offer you money for it.
Staying here for years, you either lose your mind or turn to drugs, and in the end, you end your life!
All roads lead to death.

I admit, we have misunderstood human rights!
The right to life is not for us, dignity and justice are not for us, freedom is not for us, the right to work and education is not for us.

In conclusion, I hope the Danish people wake up from their slumber and that all deportation centers and detention centers for asylum seekers are closed.
Do not believe the government and what it says.
You must visit these places to know the truth.

Speech of Valerii:

Hello everyone!
Hello Denmark!
Hello Copenhagen!
Great respect to the Royal House!
We thank Denmark for the active support to Ukraine in these difficult times.
You show the world what solidarity and responsibility mean.
We respect Denmark!
We are grateful to Denmark!
But justice must apply to everyone!
Kærshovedgård is not a prison!
It is a punishment without a time limit!
In a prison there is a sentence!
There is a punishment!
There is a release date!
Even a murderer knows when he will be released!
But in Kærshovedgård there is no time limit!
Without a trial!
Without a date!
Without an end!
More than 30 people have been there for over 10 years!
Ten years!
Without work!
Without decent living conditions!
Without a normal life!
Without the right to be human!
Without the right to be a father!
Families are being torn apart!
Fathers only see their children four nights a month!
Four nights!
Children are growing up without their fathers!
Families are falling apart!
Psychological pressure!
Systematic degradation!
Destruction of human lives!
We demand:
A law with clear time frames!
Humane living conditions!
The right to medical care!
The right to work!
The right to be with our families!
No person should live without a time limit and without a future!
Either a decision — or freedom!
Indefinite stay is not justice!
