OPEN CALL – Q***r Communities at Åbne Scene (10–23 August)

In connection with Himherandit’s upcoming performance GOOD ENOUGH?, we invite q***r communities in Aarhus and the surrounding area to take over Åbne Scene at Godsbanen between 10–23 August.

Åbne Scene is a large black box space with lights and sound available. A place where almost anything can happen — where the only real boundary is imagination.

We offer the space to groups, collectives, or 2–3 people who want to gather, rehearse, share something, perform, create, celebrate or simply spend time together.

This open call celebrates q***r joy, community, and the spaces where we can truly be ourselves.

During your time in the space we will host a short informal workshop where we record small testimonies, reflections and celebratory dances about belonging, chosen family and community.

These recordings will become part of a video installation presented alongside the performance GOOD ENOUGH?.

All participating communities will also be invited to:

• Visit Bora Bora Theatre on 14 August and meet the artistic team during rehearsals
• See the performance GOOD ENOUGH? at Bora Bora in September

✨The year is coming to an end, and what a year it has been. ✨

2025 has been filled with an overwhelming amount of creative activity, adventures, risks, and achievements. From beginning to end, this year has asked everything of me and the HIMHERANDIT Productions team—and also given so much back.

It began with a world premiere of SHROUD, and closed with another, DEATH IS NOT THE END. In between came big touring adventures across Australia and Edinburgh, and the completion of a five-year artistic journey with THE GRIEF WORK SERIES – Five Chapters, Five Performances, and One Body of Work, marked by a full performance marathon.

We started the year winning the Scenekunstpris for Best Performance with Home Q***r Home: Positive Perspectives, and went on to receive nominations for:
• Byens Bedste Award for best cultural experience – Shroud
• Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence – Champions
• Sydney Fringe Award for Best Dance Show – Mass Effect
• Melbourne Fringe Award for Best Dance Performance – Mass Effect

Alongside this came an abundance of generous reviews, powerful audience responses, and conversations that will stay with me for a long time. It’s been intense, deeply learning, and incredibly rewarding.

Behind the scenes, new seeds have been planted - from a Research & Development period supported by Åbne Scene at Godsbanen, to the beginnings of a new work:
PROJECT 101: BACK TO BASICS, BACK TO BODY, BACK TO BEING BOISTROUS - Coming for world premier in 2026

With big changes unfolding, the future feels bright: new partners, new beginnings, new projects, and an abundance of exploration and play. A new phase of life and creativity is opening—one where q***r joy takes centre stage, and happiness leads the way forward.

Hvad vil det sige virkelig at leve? Hvordan ser vi døden i øjnene? Og hvordan fortsætter vi efter et tab?
THE GRIEF WORK SERIES er ikke bare en forestilling, men en rejse i fem intime og visuelt fængslende kapitler. Hvert kapitel udforsker en ny facet af tab, hukommelse – og hvordan vi bærer de mennesker, der ikke længere er hos os.

I slutningen af oktober kan publikum for første gang opleve alle fem kapitler samlet – inklusive verdenspremieren på det sidste kapitel, Death Is Not the End, en stedsspecifik forestilling i Vor Frue Kirke med seks lokale borgere på scenen.

What does it truly mean to live? How do we look death in the eye? And how do we move forward after loss?
THE GRIEF WORK SERIES is not just a performance – it is a journey told in five intimate and visually captivating chapters. Each chapter explores a different facet of grief, memory, and the ways we carry those who are no longer with us.

This October, audiences can for the very first time experience all five chapters together – including the world premiere of the final chapter, Death Is Not the End, a site-specific performance in Aarhus Cathedral featuring six local citizens on stage.

CHAMPIONS is a raw, physical, and emotionally charged performance about homophobia and the fractured bond between father and son. At its core lies a powerful video installation, where the entire scenography comes alive to carry the storytelling forward.
