📖 ROHHAD Dictionary #1
What does “RO” mean?
Let’s break down ROHHAD — one part at a time.
🔹 RO = Rapid-Onset Obesity
One of the early signs associated with ROHHAD is rapid and significant weight gain, often beginning in early childhood.
But the word “obesity” can be misleading.
In ROHHAD, this is not simply about eating too much, exercising too little, or lacking willpower.
The rapid weight gain is part of a much more complex disorder involving the hypothalamus — an area of the brain that helps regulate hunger, hormones, temperature, sleep and many other automatic functions of the body.
That is why looking only at the weight can mean missing the bigger picture.
For some children, rapid unexplained weight gain may be one of the first clues that something much more complex is happening.
💙 Behind the “RO” is biology — not blame.
