Residency | Johannes Schropp
"re-"

Johannes Schropp is a composer and choreographer whose residency focused on the figure of the knight and a re-shaped sense (or: re-alisation) of masculinity. Both in realities of the mystical, the fairytale, the modern romanticisation and historically documented: What lingers under the layers of armour and performativity of masculinity becomes a site of re-invention in re-.

The residency brought together two dancers, a singer, and a costume designer, alongside the wind of the Irish west coast, a longsword, and custom-made armour parts, creating a hybrid work combining video installation and dance performance.

The work was premiered at the festival Internationale Maifestspiele 2026 in Wiesbaden.

Marina Kladi is a Greek dancer currently based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Drawn to dance
from a very young age, she completed her professional training at the Greek National School of
Dance in Athens (2022). As a performer, she has worked with Ioannis Mandafounis, Rainer Behr, Konstantinos Rigos and Tzeni Argyriou.
From 2023 to 2026, she was a member of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company under the artistic direction of Ioannis Mandafounis. During her time with the company, she worked with
choreographers including William Forsythe, Thomas Hauert, Rosalind Crisp, Emanuel G*t, Thomas Bradley, Sergiu Matis, and Kristin Ryg Helgebostad. Since 2025, she has also been working closely with Thomas Bradley as part of the PLAYWORK- group.

Born in Antwerp in 1988. Thomas started his training in the Royal Ballet school of Antwerp.
In the last two years he chose the contemporary direction of this education and graduated in
2006. After 2 years in codarts he went on to work professionally as a freelancer in Holland
for André Gingras, Jens Vandaele, theatergroep Dox, club Guy and Roni and more. In 2013
he joined staatstheater Oldenburg to then move in 2014, with intendant Markus Müller and
company leader Honne Dohrmann, to Mainz. To be part of Tanzmainz where he still is a full
time dancer.

Mira Urbassek is a contemporary dancer, teacher, and choreographer based in Frankfurt. After living in Barcelona for several years and working with different choreographers while creating her own work, she is currently finishing her Master's in Contemporary Dance Education (MA CoDE).

In her work, she explores ways to bring political issues on stage by mixing dance and theatricality, balancing humor, absurdity, and tragedy. Her dance practice combines different disciplines, pushing to expand the dancer's vocabulary with a focus on floorwork, details in movement, and playing with shifting attention on the body. She has been teaching internationally in places including BA Dance HfMDK, Mousonturm, Varium, and Outokumpu.

Pauline Michel studied dance and choreography at the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen (2024), after completing studies in sociology and philosophy at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg. During and after her studies, she has worked with Reut Shemesh, Cristian Duarte, Sigrid Stigsdatter, Alma Söderberg, and Doris Uhlich. She has been writing for Tanz, tanznetz, and bastard blog.

Against the belief that dance is without language, we will work with text, voice, and dance all together. Based on improvisational tasks, we will use vocal sounds and verbal descriptions as inspiration for movement. The class is open to all levels.

Sarah Altherr is a dancer and dance educator currently working part-time at the Staatstheater Mainz, alongside freelance projects in the Rhine-Main region. She studied music and dance education in Salzburg and contemporary dance education in Frankfurt. Her master's thesis explored consent in contemporary dance practices.

In her teaching, Sarah combines elements of floorwork and contact improvisation. Her artistic work experiments with concepts that engage with endurance and sensory perception, creating embodied practices that invite deep listening and presence.

Sofía Seta is an Argentine dance artist and educator based in Germany, currently completing a Master's in Contemporary Dance Education at HfMDK. Her movement practice is rooted in street dance and develops within a contemporary dance context through somatic approaches and floorwork, with a focus on rhythmicality, coordination, and the organization and efficiency of the body in motion.

Working between performance and pedagogy, she has been teaching since 2014 in professional and diverse contexts across Europe and South America, including Mousonturm, Dock11, and C.C. Bailarines de los Ríos. Her creations include solo and collaborative pieces, and she has worked with artists such as Constanza Macras, Byström Källblad, and Sören Siebel. In Buenos Aires, she co-founded Colectivo MUTA and performed with Breaking Tango Dance Company.
