❗️ OLESHKY: CIVILIANS LEFT WITHOUT RELIABLE ACCESS TO FOOD, WATER, AND MEDICINE
The European Union is calling for safe and sustained humanitarian access to the temporarily Russian-occupied city of Oleshky in Ukraine’s Kherson region.
According to Ukrainian authorities, around 2,000 civilians remain in the city, including approximately 50 children.
Residents are facing serious shortages and lack reliable access to:
- food
- clean drinking water
- medicine
- medical care
- electricity and gas
On October 2, EU Commissioner Hadja Lahbib said civilians are trapped without adequate access to food, medicine, clean water, and basic assistance.
The EU is demanding that humanitarian aid be allowed to reach people safely and that civilians be permitted to leave the city.
The EU also stresses that Russia, as the occupying power, has obligations under international humanitarian law to protect civilians and facilitate humanitarian assistance.
On September 27, Ukrainian heavy drones reportedly delivered about four tons of food and medical supplies to 100 locations in Oleshky. But drone deliveries cannot replace full humanitarian access or a safe evacuation corridor.
This is not just about politics.
There are still people there.
People who need food, medicine, water, and a way out.
If we stop talking about Oleshky, the crisis may disappear from our feeds.
It will not disappear for the people living there.
