“Cultural Bridge’s Global Winter School has been an amazing program for me – the connections I made on both an academic and on a personal level have been extremely helpful for both my studies and my personal life, and thus it comes highly recommended from me.
Visiting rural Rajasthan, a very un-touristy area with a lot of history, and going to places that no Westerners usually get to see, gaining insights into the area from both locals that we interacted with, but also GWS participants from the local area, was extremely enriching. (And we did end up doing some more “tourist-y” things as well, which were breathtaking.)
As somebody focused on India in my studies, the seminars were very helpful. Getting a rundown of caste and class in India from somebody as renowned as JNU’s Prof. Jodhkar was amazing, as well as receiving inspiring inputs about how society is changing in India from people that have spent their lives there and are witnessing current shifts in values was – no pun intended – invaluable.
Last but definitely not least, I would say that this program is ideal for any student of the field or other interested academic who has never been to India before but wants to create connections to the country and its people. In my year there were not only participants from a lot of Western countries, but people from diverse Indian contexts – both geographically and socially.
Making these connections really helped me foster a connection to the country and its people, and I now know people from almost every major city in India, which helped me in doing research in a diverse array of places, but also making connections that I hope will last a lifetime.”
