Learning from the Heart: Our 2nd Teacher Training Brings New Impulse to Local Schools
Days like today remind us exactly why we do this work: Today, we held our second teacher training session, and the resonance exceeded all our expectations. Alongside our own team, we welcomed 13 colleagues from the surrounding public schools. Seeing teachers come together across school boundaries to collaboratively improve education for the children in our region is incredibly rewarding.
An Eye-Opener: The Pedagogy of Maria Montessori
The focus of today’s session was on an approach that completely reimagines the child and their individual strengths: Montessori pedagogy.
Delivered with Passion: We led the day with an inspiring presentation, sharing not just theory but demonstrating the Montessori materials directly in practice. The enthusiasm was contagious.
A Fresh Perspective on Teaching: For many of the public school teachers, this self-directed, material-based learning was a completely new world. Observing the "aha" moments and seeing new ideas take shape was a truly powerful moment.
Sharing Knowledge to Spark Real Change
We do not just want to inspire theoretically; we want to trigger real change in the classrooms. That is why it was incredibly important to us that the teachers did not leave empty-handed:
Practical Tools to Take Home: In a subsequent session, we distributed materials to the guest teachers to take back to their own schools. It is a wonderful feeling to know that parts of what was learned today will reach the first school children as early as next week.
Confidence Through Rigorous Preparation: Because we had discussed and prepared every single material in detail beforehand, we were able to address every question and doubt from the teachers with calm and expertise. This intensive preparation paid off in the high level of trust we received today.

Unsere Schule steht. Der Rohbau ist fertig. Jetzt geht es weiter mit den Fenstern, Türen und dem Innenausbau. Bald werden auch hier unsere Kinder die Möglichkeit haben, zu lernen und ihre Welt erobern.

Wir freuen uns, die 2. Lehrerfortbildung anbieten zu können. In enger Absprache zwischen den Teams in Gambia und Deutschland und viel Kleinarbeit konnte Material in Deutschland und Gambia hergestellt werden.

Das Thema dieses Mal ist "Vom auswendig Lernen zum Verstehen". Zielgruppe sind die Lehrer der Kindergärten und Grundschule.

Zum Verständnis. Im gambischen Schulsystem wird viel auf auswendig lernen gesetzt, was wir für nicht richtig halten. Die Lehrerfortbildung soll andere Möglichkeiten zur Verfügung stellen.

Today we celebrate a major milestone: the Nursery building at Education for Future Academy – Suwareh Kundah is finished! 🎉
Getting to this point was not easy. One of our biggest ongoing struggles was material procurement — again and again we faced shortages, price changes, transport difficulties, and long delays. Sometimes what should have been a simple purchase turned into days of searching and waiting. But our community and our team stayed determined and refused to give up.
Now we finally have our own dedicated classrooms, and already 50 children are learning there. The children are excited, and the whole atmosphere is filled with passion.
To everyone who contributed, donated, encouraged, worked, and believed in this dream: thank you.
And to our fantastic team on the ground: you are extraordinary.
Today, all of us feel proud — because this is what can happen when we stand together. Next steps are already ahead. We continue — together 💛

🌱 Progress You Can See
Another moment of pride for our community is seeing how well the mangroves planted in recent years have grown. What once were small seedlings have developed into strong, healthy mangrove areas. They protect the land, support biodiversity, and show what long-term commitment and care can achieve.

As we celebrate this joyful season, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated team in Germany and to all our generous donors who continue to stand with us and believe in our mission. Your unwavering support has made a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and communities.

Because of your kindness and commitment, EFA, EFF2G, our Nursery, and all our ongoing projects have continued to grow, reach more children, and provide quality education, care, and hope for a better future. Your support is not just financial it is a powerful investment in lives, dreams, and lasting change.

Heute durften wir unseren Verein beim im vorstellen. Dankeschön für die Einladung und Themen wie Fluchtursachen, Fluchtwege und Spätfolgen des Kolonialismus aufzeigen zu dürfen.

Unser ganzheitliches Konzept fand großen Anklang und die anschließende Fragerunde war sehr interessant.

Was so im Hintergrund läuft:

Vor einigen Monaten fand die erste Lehrerfortbildung statt (wir berichteten). Eine große Nachfrage kam weit über unsere Möglichkeiten hinaus. Nachdem wir das alles so ein wenig haben sacken lassen, haben wir eine zweite Lehrerfortbildung konzipiert zum Thema "Gedächtnistraining und Spaß am Lernen". Dieses Material ist bereits verschifft und auf dem Weg nach Gambia.

Es dauert immer viele Monate bis Material in Gambia ankommt. Deshalb haben wir bereits mit der 3. Lehrerfortbildung begonnen zum Thema "3 Stunden Grammatik". Es wird Grammatik wiederholt und zusätzliches Material ausgegeben.

Es muss qualitativ guter Unterricht möglich sein. Das geht aber nur, wenn unsere Lehrer gut ausgebildet sind.

Wer hätte das gedacht. Unsere Kinder unserer Schule kommen in die vierte Klasse. Was damals (hört sich so weit weg an) als Idee entstand, ist für 50 Kinder wahr geworden.

Neben dem normalen Unterricht (wir lehnen uns an die Inhalte der gambischen Schulen an, um jedem Kind einen eventuellen Schulwechsel zu ermöglichen) sind Fächer wie "Bibliothek", Freiarbeit und Kunst ein fester Bestandteil.

Ein riesiges Dankeschön an alle Menschen, die es möglich machen.

On August 16, together with the Lower Baddibu Youths for Development, we carried out our third successful mangrove planting initiative in the Kerewan Swamp. With this activity, we have now planted a total of around 30,000 seedlings.

This time, the collaboration with the local youth club marked an important step, showing how community engagement strengthens long-term impact.

Mangroves play a vital role: 🌱

protecting coastlines from erosion,

storing significant amounts of CO₂,

providing habitats for diverse wildlife.

After about 8 years the trees begin to produce their own seedlings – creating a sustainable cycle that can continue without external support.

We thank all participants for their commitment on the ground. Step by step, these efforts contribute to long-term environmental protection and stronger communities. ❤️

*Lower Badibu Youths for Development* in collaboration with *Education for Future Academics* wishes to inform the general membership that the much anticipated *Teacher’s Conference* was successfully held.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the leadership of the association and our partners, *Education for Future Academics*, for their tireless efforts in making this conference a reality.

We sincerely thank all the participants for honouring our call and showing up in their numbers.
