Members and directors meeting in Germany

On 21st October we had our yearly members and directors meeting of the german part of Asedaye e.V.. One highlight since two years is a video call with the ghanaian coordinators to discuss some topics and after that to chat with the Asedaye kids. It's really nice to have this simple opportunity to see and to get an impression of each other. Some of the kids are now grown ups since we met them during our last visits in Dormaa! And others are so fresh in Asedaye that we are happy to meet them (online) for the first time.

🏟️ Friendly games against team Ocean (06/23)

Asedaye Keep Fit is getting on fire to have sports competitions. Therefore this year we organised again a friendly game (football and volleyball) with the team called Ocean of Dormaa.

In fact, it was a tough match:
⚽ Ocean 2:1 Asedaye Keep Fit
🏐 Ocean 0:2 Asedaye Keep Fit
Adding all points together Asedaye made it (again) and finally could take home the trophy. 🏆 What a great team 👏

Consultation for JHS students on their early learn plan (07/'23)

In the last years Asedaye recognized that young adolescents, supported by their parents and families, mostly choose to go to SHS after they complete JHS. But not for every child it's the best decision. If they fail to graduate from SHS, to repeat the exams can get costly. And if the results are not good enough it can get hard to get access to tertiary education or vocational and technical training schools. Young people can end in unemployment with not many options if they fail in SHS. The success in and after secondary education is highly dependent on the student's performances but also on their interests and motivation.

Therefore Asedaye started this year a consultation program for JHS students and their parents to show all the educational paths they can choose from and how interests and motivation should be part of their decisions. About 60 kids and 50 parents took part. They got informed by the expert speakers Rev. Emmanuel Kumi from the Ghana Education Service Dormaa Ahenkro and Ms. Joana Yeboaa from the Berekum College of Education.

We hope the program could give the kids and their families an expanded view on the educational opportunities they have. We wish them the best for their decisions and hope our program helped them to choose the next steps on their paths.

Thanks a lot to the speakers and the municipal assembly of Dormaa Ahenkro that we could have the program in their conference hall.

Constance the captain of her school's female football team (04/'23)

One of the Asedaye kids, Constance, is the captain of the female football team in her school M/A Experimental J.H.S. As a captain of a team, you have a lot of responsibilities to perform or undertake since you happen to be the representative of the coach whiles the match is in progress. Despite all these responsibilities Constance stood up and came up with an outstanding performance. During the annual inter-school competition organized by the Ghana Education Service she showed her competences and gradually, she led the team to finals and finally won the competition.

T-Shirts for Asedaye kids and workers (03/'23)

Some time ago the Asedaye kids asked for T-Shirts so they can identify with and show up as a member of the Asedaye family. We didn't need a lot of discussions, so they chose the colour they would like to wear and the coordinators ordered these beautiful majestic blue T-Shirts with the Asedaye logo on the front side and the slogan on the back side.
🪡👕

It really suits all of the Asedaye family. There are still T-Shirts in stock for new kids getting part of Asedaye.

⚽🐐🏟️ Asedaye keep fit takes part in the Aponkye Cup (12/'22)

Every year during Christmas time in Dormaa Ahenkro the Aponkye (Goat) Cup takes place. Football teams of Dormaa and surrounding villages can register to take part. The winning team receives a trophee, lots of cheers and an aponkye - a goat - to prepare a sweet goat soup and fufu for the team members and their followers.
🥇🏆🐐🍛

In 2022 Asedaye Keep Fit registered for the first time as the youngest out of 23 teams that took part. The crowd was so excited that they cheered up a lot for these 15 young men that were trying to beat the older and probably more experienced teams of Dormaa. For the team it was a great experience and motivates them to take part in more official friendly cups in and around Dormaa.

Asedaye witnessing the grand finale of Kids Talent Show in Sunyani

The Fixtries Entertainment Agency presents a yearly talent show for kids. It's such an exciting program that everyone loves to attend the show. Many kids come on stage to dance, sing or drum. A professional jury judge their performances by letting them know which area they did well and where they should improve on. Aside the marks from the jury, also 30% votes from the family and their loved ones of the contestants are part of the rating. The winner of the year 2022 is the one dressed in blue, 1st runner up the one in pink and the second runner up is dressed in white.

Asedaye traveled in December 2022 to Sunyani to witness the grand final of the kids talent show. Possibly some of the Asedaye kids with similar talents get encouraged to unleash them. The Asedaye kids were very happy to witness the show.

Anita's graduation as a master in sewing

After Anita completed her secondary and vocational training, Anita continued with her education and enrolled herself in the practical aspect of sewing and beading. She studied for two and half years and is now a master on her own. After the training, the students graduate and receive certificates so they can start their own shop as masters.

Anita invited Asedaye to her graduation. Three of the workers (Ernestina, Alberta and Abedinago) represented Asedaye and honoured her invitation. It was a nice program as they display with their own sewed clothings. Asedaye is very proud of Anita and we wish her the very best as she embarks on her masters Journey in sewing.

All in one: TV, Computer, Internet

Abedinago and Alberta decided to purchase a TV, that also can be used as a computer and has access to the internet. The Asedaye kids now have the opportunity to get taught on TV, learn how to use a Computer, how to type on a keyboard and how to use the internet to get information from it and many other things that are possible.
During the Corona Pandemic many kids could not go to school because of various lock downs. So some TV stations started programs for teaching kids while staying in the house. Since "normality" came back, the Asedaye kids still have to catch up many of the topics in various school subjects. The TV station is helping them to do so and gives them more options by getting connected to the world wide web.

Wedding of Dorothée and Emmanuel

End of August Abedinago, Aunty Mensah and the Asedaye kids Angel and Blessing travelled to Elmina to witness the wedding of Dorothée and Emmanuel. Dorothée is a friend and member of Asedaye, the sponsor of Angel and the former sponsor of Blessing and creates our beautiful newsletters. Her (since that time) spouse Immanuel originally comes from the coastal town Elmina in Ghana. So they chose that place for celebrating their traditional Ghanaian wedding. The delegation of Asedaye from Dormaa felt very happy and proud to be part of that marvelous ceremony. We wish Dorothée and Emmanuel all the best for their future and thanks for the beautiful gesture to invite the Asedaye family members to your wedding. 💝
