Forests are one of the planet’s most powerful climate solutions.
By absorbing CO₂ emissions, forests help regulate temperatures, protect biodiversity and strengthen resilience against climate impacts.
But climate change, drought, wildfires and land degradation continue to place increasing pressure on these vital natural systems.
Protecting and restoring nature is essential to protecting our future.

At plant-for-the-planet, we spend a lot of time looking up at the trees. But today, we’re looking down at the ground to celebrate our ultimate partner in climate action: peatlands. Forests and peatlands are the ultimate eco-duo. While our trees absorb carbon from the air, peatlands lock it safely underground, storing way more carbon than all the world’s forests combined! They are also absolute magnets for wildlife. By keeping these soggy landscapes healthy, we protect a massive web of life. Plus, peatlands act like giant natural sponges. They hold and clean water, which keeps neighbouring forests hydrated and healthy...We can’t protect our forests without protecting our peatlands:)
Let’s keep them wet, wild and full of life!💚⭐️⭐️

The recent record-breaking heatwaves remind us that climate change is a collective problem. Across Western Europe, countries are breaking temperature records for the month of May, with parts of the UK, France and Spain experiencing heat more typical of peak summer. Nights are becoming “tropical,” meaning temperatures stay above 20°C overnight, giving people little time to cool down and recover.
These rising temperatures do not affect everyone equally. Vulnerable communities, outdoor workers, children and elderly people are often hit the hardest. If we care about climate justice, we need collective action that goes beyond individual choices. That means rapidly transitioning away from fossil fuels, protecting and restoring forests and investing in solutions that keep both people and the planet cool.

Join our movement for climate justice and forest restoration. Let’s Plant-for-the-Planet 🌍

The barren landscape left behind by wildfires has a critical, long-term effect on the surrounding environment.

A study published in The Conversation reveals that fires drastically increase the amount of fine particles, ash and carcinogenic contaminants (like PAHs) entering our watersheds.
When the rains finally come, this toxic runoff flushes into streams and reservoirs, polluting local drinking water for years and overwhelming water treatment systems.
In fact, the study also revealed that the chemicals we are using to fight the wildfires may also decrease the quality of water.
Global tree cover loss is increasing fast due to climate change and deforestation. And, as fires increase, so does their impact.

We must act now to prevent wildfires and restore more resilient forests! Join us to support communities that restore forests.

The population of the US is 1,000 times that of Vanuatu. Its income per person is 20 times higher. These two countries couldn’t be more different. But when they went head to head at the UN this week, Vanuatu won and the US lost.
😵‍💫So what happened? Felix Finkbeiner, the founder of Plant-for-the-Planet, explains the latest news.

Good Climate News!
The United Nations has now adopted a progressive resolution on climate justice.
Our policy analyst, Kathrin Henneberger, explains what it means for international law and how this ruling came out of the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and reaffirms its key findings.

“We will run out of forest to move the orangutans to.”
A recent Guardian article highlights the growing crisis in Borneo, where orangutans are losing their habitats to expanding palm oil plantations. The story shows how unchecked expansion is devastating ancient rainforests and pushing wildlife into dangerous conflict with humans and how truly complicated balancing livelihoods and conservation is.
🦧 Orangutans are losing their habitats to palm oil plantations.
🌴 Palm oil is in around 50% of supermarket products worldwide.
📉 Indonesia produces nearly 60% of global palm oil.
We need solutions that protect both communities and ecosystems through coexistence, restoration and long-term conservation.
BTW, did you know we created a game that teaches players about orangutan habitats while supporting real forest restoration efforts?
