Reinventing traditional music and dance | Ethno is a camp for young folk enthusiasts by Jeunesses Musicales

Ethno Germany is a folk and traditional music camp for young musicians from all over the world. During 10 days, around 40 enthusiastic participants primarily aged between 16 and 26 will gather at the beautiful Castle Lichtenberg near the town of Kusel to play, teach and learn traditional music from all over the world. We will get to know each other, exchange ideas and share experiences. But most o

f all, we will explore diverse cultural backgrounds and reinvent traditional music. Ethno Germany is about the people you will meet, the music you will play and the joy you will have. Whether you have been trained in classical music, your repertoire consists mainly of jazz compositions or you know the global folk music scene inside out; whichever instrument you play or which register you sing in; whether you consider yourself a professional musician or a hobby instrumentalist, Ethno Germany’s unique approach will benefit all participants equally through a lively mixture of jam sessions, workshops and performances.

ETHNO Germany 2025 - an experience for musicians and dancers from all over the world. From 7th until 17th of August 2025 at Castle Lichtenberg, Thallichtenberg, near Kusel, Rhineland-Palatinate.

You can apply as a musician and as a dancer.
Apply as a musician if you want to share music from your traditional background and be part of a big ensemble arranging, singing and playing music from all over the world.

Apply as a dancer if you want to share dances from your traditional background and be part of a dance group discovering a variety of traditional and modern dances and creating choreographies to the arrangements of musician's ensemble.

Musicians and dancers will be working side by side in different groups with several daily meeting opportunities and sessions where everyone collaborates together in order to create a big performance with dance and music from all over the world.

The ruins of Castle Lichtenberg near Kusel (Palatinate) will provide once again a rustic yet fascinating scenery for musicians and dancers working side by side, creating breath-taking performances, where sound and movement merge together. About 40 participants will share and explore diverse cultural backgrounds, learn and reinvent traditional music & dances and connect through the power of music & dance.
Be in the big spaces of the castle area, the comfort & service of the youth hostel, the professional artistic mentors or the support from the enthusiastic organisers – participants will receive everything they need for days and nights full of music, dance and joy. Be part of the ETHNO Germany experience and join our celebration of diversity and community!

Our Story

ETHNO Germany is a folk and traditional music summer camp for young musicians from all over the world. Since 2013, always in August around 40 enthusiastic participants gather at the beautiful Castle Lichtenberg near the town of Kusel to play, teach and learn music from each other. The core of the camp is set upon exploring diverse cultural backgrounds and reinventing traditional music.

ETHNO Germany is about the people you will meet, the music you will play and the joy you will have. Whether you have been trained in classical music, your repertoire consists mainly of jazz compositions or you know the global folk music scene inside out; whichever instrument you play or which register you sing in; whether you consider yourself a professional musician or a hobby instrumentalist, ETHNO Germany’s unique approach will benefit all participants equally through a lively mixture of jam sessions, workshops and performances.

Music is connected to dance, particularly traditional folk music. By interlinking these art forms, there is a reinforcement of their message as they complement each other. We want the concerts presented by the ETHNO Germany Orchestra to be complemented with dance moments, performed by an international group of dancers who will also take part in the ETHNO Germany music camp.
