low Slackliners - liebe Stuttgarter Slacklinefamilie,
important info! - wichtige Infos! (Da wir eine multinationale Gemeinschaft sind, nun auf Englisch. - The following is written in English so everybody can understand it easily, as our community is multinational.) We are proud to be part of a constantly growing, very active and living slackline family here in Stuttgart. As you may have noticed our possibilities to use public locations, like parks, are restricted by the local administration. We find this very limiting to our sport and would love to be able to exercise slacklining more freely in the future. This is why we have reached out to the administration to find somebody to talk to and work on a general slackline concept for Stuttgart. To speak with one united voice we plan to found an official slackline club in Stuttgart, this summer. Making slacklining legal and finding a solution everybody can be happy with, is our final goal. Who are we? We - that is Eva Polyglot, Philipp Rettler and Jan Christ, recently joined by Tobias Höller. We have been living in Stuttgart between one and several years and have decided we are not satisfied with the current slackline situation. We are not pro athletes but students and employees and slackling is our common passion. Being part of a bigger community and having talked this thru many times, we recently decided to take things into our own hands and work for improvement. What is the current situation? Slacklining is forbidden in all public places in Stuttgart except tolerated/allowed in several specifically marked locations. You can find these official slackline spots on the map posted below. Please make sure to meet the slackline rules mentioned in the second link, all the time! Of course limitation is opposing the slackline philosophy, being a sport of freedom. Therefore we are working with the administration to find a solution satisfying for both sides. Why is the current situation as it is? It so happens that there was a time when people did not know how to mount and use a slackline properly without harming trees. This lead to general prohibition because the city administration is responsible for the environment and to keep all public parks safe and sound. If anybody is harmed by a falling branch etc., in public, the city could be sued. Not knowing any proper studies it might even be considered comprehensible that the city overreacted on the matter, some years ago. Furthermore some public parks belong to the city and some others as Stadtgarten or Rosensteinpark are property of the land BW, administered by the Wilhelma. This makes things a little more complicated, too. Ever since nothing much has happened. Neither on the city's side nor initiated by slackliners. Well that is not fully true. Robert tried to gain some positive slackline publicity in a vote on public financing for the coming years. Him being deeply connected to a slackline brand this was considered advertising by some people. Therefore we find it even more important for slackliners here in Stuttgart to speak with one voice for their sport with all its different facets and styles. We are one big slackline family – no matter what label is printed on who's line. What has happened already? The three of us went to the city administration and have found a contact willing to work with us on a new slackline concept for Stuttgart. To proof there is need for such we started a signature collection last month. In it we try to determine how many active supporters our sport has around town, especially around our usual slackline spots. Also we have collected several studies and info material on slacklining concepts in other cities. Future goals
Of course we want to collect as many signature for our support as possible. If you want to help, feel free to download the sheet and/or contact us via e-mail or personally! More importantly we plan to found an official slackline club in Stuttgart, till the end of the year, if this is supported by enough slackliners from around town. Therefore we plan to hold a kick-off meeting, soon. About this, we keep you posted. Everybody willing
