The training marked another powerful and impactful step under our project, “Strengthening Multi-Sectoral Action on GBV and FGM Prevention in The Gambia.” The level of engagement, participation, and openness demonstrated by all attendees reflects a shared commitment to addressing these critical issues within the sports sector.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Youth & Sports, West Coast Region Office for their invaluable support in ensuring the participation of the right stakeholders. The presence of sports administrators, committee members, and leaders made the discussions both relevant and action-oriented.

We also wish to sincerely thank Kaddy Jammeh from the Ministry of Youth for her coordination and support in ensuring that the Brikama Area Council Hall was made available for this important training. Our gratitude equally goes to the Council for providing the space that enabled this impactful engagement.

The training has strengthened knowledge, inspired reflection, and reinforced the role of sports institutions in promoting safety, equality, and accountability.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to NALA for their continued trust and unwavering support in making these trainings possible. Your commitment goes beyond funding, you are standing with us in driving meaningful change, strengthening capacity, and empowering key stakeholders to take action against GBV and FGM in The Gambia.

Together, we continue to take meaningful steps toward ending GBV and FGM in The Gambia.

Empowering Voices | Girls Leading the Conversation

At Shine Light, we believe that change begins when girls are given a safe space to speak, reflect, and lead conversations that matter.

Today, in our Girls’ Roundtable WhatsApp Group, our girls are engaging in a powerful and honest discussion around an important question:

“How are girls being harassed in our societies, and how can it be stopped?”

Through voice notes and messages, the girls are bravely sharing their experiences, ideas, and solutions. This is more than just a discussion, it is a moment of awareness, empowerment, and collective thinking.

By encouraging girls to speak up, we are:
✨ Building confidence and leadership
✨ Promoting critical thinking and advocacy
✨ Creating a generation that will challenge harmful norms
✨ Strengthening the fight against GBV and all forms of abuse

We are proud of our girls for their courage, their voices, and their commitment to shaping a better and safer future.

Together, we listen. Together, we learn. Together, we act.

The Age-Appropriate Education & Progress Monitoring Form is a structured tool developed by Shine Light to track the academic, personal, and developmental progress of sponsored girls. It helps ensure that each girl is enrolled and progressing in school according to her appropriate age level, while also identifying any risks such as delayed education, dropout, or early marriage.

The form captures key information on academic performance, attendance, health, parental support, and protection risks, allowing the organization to make informed decisions and provide timely interventions. It also strengthens accountability, improves communication with parents, and supports effective monitoring and evaluation of each beneficiary’s journey.

Overall, this tool promotes early intervention, transparency, and sustained educational success for girls in both primary and nursing levels.

This training is part of our continued commitment to nurturing bold, informed, and empowered young leaders who can speak up, advocate, and drive positive change within their communities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Aunty Tunko for sharing her knowledge and inspiring our girls.

Together, we are raising a generation of leaders. 💡💪

Greetings,

Shine Light in Girls’ Education Germany–Gambia e.V. wishes to inform all our sponsored girls and their parents/guardians that we will be conducting a comprehensive headcount exercise across our four regions as part of our 2026 programme planning and accountability process.

Since our establishment in 2020, we have remained committed to transparency, proper monitoring, and the continued support of every girl under our sponsorship. In this regard, all sponsored girls within the Greater Banjul Area and West Coast Region are kindly requested to visit our office in Brikama together with their parents or guardians on the scheduled dates to be communicated.

For our girls in the rural regions, our Regional Coordinators will lead and manage the process to ensure full participation and proper documentation.

This exercise is extremely important to us, as it helps us verify records, strengthen engagement with families, and effectively plan for the upcoming sponsorship cycle. Kindly note that any girl or parent/guardian who fails to take part in this process will not be captured in the 2026 sponsorship package.

We therefore strongly encourage full cooperation and timely participation from all beneficiaries. Together, we continue to build a transparent, accountable, and impactful programme for the future of our girls.

Signed

Rising Above Excellence: Amie Shines with Outstanding WASSCE Results Ahead of Her Final Year

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our Shine Light Girls’ Assembly Speaker, Amie, whose WASSCE results for Private Candidates have been released with an excellent performance.

Amie scored six (6) credits, including English and Mathematics, along with three (3) passes, a remarkable accomplishment that qualifies her for admission to the University of The Gambia.

This milestone reflects her determination, discipline, and commitment to academic excellence. It is important to note that Amie is currently in Grade 12, preparing to sit for her final WASSCE examinations. Her decision to take the private exam was a strategic step to strengthen her academic standing ahead of her final year.

As an organization, we are incredibly proud of her progress and the example she continues to set for other girls.

We wish Amie the very best in her upcoming examinations and remain confident that she will achieve even greater success.
