Central Asia: Breaking Stereotypes and Building Bridges!
The three-day international forum "Blick nach Zentralasien – und zurück" (A Look at Central Asia – and back) in Lutherstadt Wittenberg has just concluded. The event, organized by Stiftung West-Östliche Begegnungen (Foundation for West-Eastern Encounters) with support from Evangelische Akademie Sachsen-Anhalt, provided a deep dive into the region.

Central Asia is not a monolith, but a multilayered mosaic of the unique cultures, histories, and aspirations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.

Key takeaways and speakers:

Opening: Greetings from Paul Martin Evangelische Akademie) and Elena Hoffmann (Stiftung West-Östliche Begegnungen), plus a lecture by Dr. Andrea Schmitz (SWP) on current dynamics in the region.

Geopolitics: Shairbek Dzhuraev and Temur Umarov shared fascinating insights on political order and geopolitical interdependencies.

Economy: Dr. Roland Götz and Dr. Uwe Strohbach (Germany Trade & Invest) presented the region through the lens of resources, reforms, and development potential.

Civil Society: Matthias Platzeck, Dr. Mahabat Sadyrbek, Tatyana Nikitina, and Elmira Abylbek discussed the role of activists between the state and change.

Conclusion: A dialogue with heads of the embassies of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan on current political events and regional cooperation.

The atmosphere was complemented by cultural highlights: a performance by flutist Mira Tulenova and an art walk with ArtCity e.V., featuring photographs from Kyrgyzstan and a short film.

This forum provided an invaluable differentiated perspective. Huge thanks to the organizers and all participants for an honest conversation!

🚀 Partnership Reaches a NEW Level! 🤝
KUNA e.V. (Germany) and "Our Voice" (Kyrgyzstan) have successfully completed their exchange under the CCP Synergy program, laying a strong foundation for powerful joint projects!

The mutual visits allowed us to move beyond ideas to a concrete action plan. The final stage - KUNA’s return visit to Bishkek - was focused on a deep needs analysis and establishing key official ties.

Through interviews and focus groups with regional partners, we identified clear needs in several vital areas:

:: Regional sustainable development ::

:: Pre-migration preparation ::

:: Post-migration assistance for youth and adults ::

Official Support & Integration
To ensure the sustainability and national integration of our future work, the KUNA team held critical high-level meetings with key governmental and business structures, securing important consultations with:

:: Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Security and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic, Bakyt Darmankulovich uulu;

:: Deputy Minister of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, Makhmetkulov Albert Damirbekovich;

:: Member of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, Talieva Kamila Abdyrazakovna;

:: President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, Temir Sariev (Check out the meeting details here: https://cci.kg/news/1/4431.html);

:: Deputy Director of the Center for Employment of Citizens Abroad, Zhakypov Kairatbek Nazirinbekovich;

:: Management of the Public Foundation "Insan Leylek"

:: Project Manager at VHS DVV International, Bakhram Rakhmankulov.

These discussions confirmed the high relevance of our proposed projects and opened up opportunities for official support and integration into national programs.

Looking Ahead 🎯
The exchange of experience was intensive and bilateral! We’ve not only expanded our "toolbox" of working methods but also developed detailed drafts of planned projects that will integrate sustainable development, gender, social, and religious aspects, migration, and education. We’ve also defined a joint long-term strategy, including fundraising and risk management.

Furthermore, we are confident these projects will significantly impact young people in Kyrgyzstan, helping them integrate confidently and safely into new environments.

The next step: securing funding and full implementation!

Stay tuned for updates! 👇

Our Partners from Kyrgyzstan Visit KUNA e.V.!
We were thrilled to host our colleagues from Kyrgyzstan in Germany as part of the CrossCulture Programme (CCP) Synergy, a program supported by ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen). It was a busy and productive week, full of new ideas and a fruitful exchange of experiences.

Here’s what we accomplished:

Learning the Methodology: Our guests learned about the principles of education for sustainable development that we use at KUNA e.V.

Practical Insights: We showed them real-world examples from our projects, including a visit to our MiA courses.

Exploring Partnerships: Together, we visited other organizations, including AEF Bonn, KlimaWelten Hichenbach, Technic museum in Freudenberg, VAKS e.V Siegen to discuss future collaborations.

Strategic Planning: Meetings with the KUNA e.V. management and board helped us develop a strategy for our future cooperation.

A particularly valuable part of the visit was meeting with our team and activists who work in women's empowerment. We exchanged experiences and found common ground for future initiatives.

We are confident that this visit will be the beginning of a long-lasting and successful partnership. Stay tuned for updates on our next steps!
