The Word - Jesus - the Light
---
Luke2
Jesus is Born 1 At that time, Caesar Augustus ordered a census to be taken of all the inhabitants of the Roman Empire.
2 This census had never been taken before. It was carried out when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3 Everyone had to go to their hometown to register.
4 So Joseph traveled from Nazareth in Galilee to Bethlehem in Judea, the home of King David, for he was a descendant of David and a native of Bethlehem.
5 Joseph was required to register there, along with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
6 In Bethlehem, the time came for Mary to give birth.
7 She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger in the stable, because they had not been able to get a room at the inn.
8 That night, some shepherds were watching over their flocks in the fields outside Bethlehem.
9 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them. The shepherds were greatly afraid,
10 but the angel said, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
11 Today in the town where David was born, a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
12 You will recognize him by this: a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great number of angels appeared around them, praising God:
14 “Glory to God in heaven! For he who brings peace to the world and loves mankind.”

Jesus, the “Word,” is also the light. Light represents God’s presence, truth, and purity. Where Jesus is, there is light—orientation, hope, and clarity enter our lives.
Darkness signifies absence from God, ignorance, guilt, and separation from Him. It represents everything that keeps us from God.
Whoever receives Jesus lives in the light and no longer in darkness.
---
1 John 1:1 (NIV)
1 The Word of life was from the beginning. We have heard it, seen it with our eyes, looked at it, and even touched it with our hands.
2 This life has appeared. We have seen it and are able to testify to it. Therefore, we proclaim the message of eternal life. It was with God the Father and has revealed itself to us.
---
John 1:1 (NIV)
1 In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 From the beginning, he was with God.
3 All things were created through him; without him nothing was made.
4 In him was life, and that life was the light for all mankind.
5 It shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
---
John 1:1
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
---
"The Word" (Greek: Logos) here refers to Jesus Christ. John describes how Jesus did not begin with his birth, but existed even before the beginning.
This reminds us that at the beginning of the creation of the earth, God created it through his Word and his Spirit.
---
Genesis 1:1:
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
---
The word of the Savior's birth was given as a prophecy, meaning the word came before its fulfillment.
Birth of a virgin
Immanuel = God with us
---
Isaiah 7:14:
"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."
---
Matthew 1:22-23:
"All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: 'The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel'" (which means "God with us").
---
Matthew 28:20:
"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
---
The birthplace, Bethlehem, was prophesied and fulfilled.
---
Micah 5:1:
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
---
Matthew 2:1:
“After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem.”
---
Luke 2:4-7:
“So Joseph also went to Bethlehem to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was pregnant. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”---
Der Nachkomme Davids wurde mit dem Wort vorraus gesagt und ging in Erfüllung
---
Jeremiah 23:5:
“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he will reign as king and act wisely, and will do justice and righteousness in the land.”
---
Isaiah 9:6:
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders, and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
---
Matthew 1:1:
“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the son of Abraham.”
---
Luke 1:32-33:
“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; of his kingdom there will be no end.”
---
Child as Light of the World
---
Isaiah 9:1-6:
"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have given voice to shouts of joy; you have increased gladness... For to us a child is born, to us a son is given..."
---
Luke 2:30-32:
"For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations—a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel."
---
John 8:12:
"Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"
Here, "the Word" (Jesus) represents the light that gives people guidance and hope.
---
Furthermore, Jesus says about himself:
---
John 8:12:
"Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"
John 1:4-5:
"In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
---
Thus, the Word of God is infinitely important.
But your words and mine also have great significance.
---
Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)
"Words have power: They can decide over life and death. Whoever enjoys the sound of their own voice must live with the consequences."
---
2 James 3:5-6 (HFA)
"In the same way, the tongue is a small organ of our body, yet it is capable of great things. Just think how a single spark can set a forest on fire. And the tongue is a fire, full of evil and poisoning."
--
Meaning:
Even a single thoughtless word can cause great harm—like a spark that ignites a forest fire.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
you are the living Word and the light of the world.
Please help me to be mindful of my words.
Grant me wisdom so that I may encourage, build up, and bring peace with my words.
Keep me from hurting others with thoughtless or hurtful words.
Let my heart and my tongue be filled with your love,
so that I may be a light to others and share your truth.
Guide me through your Holy Spirit,
that my words may be a blessing—for me and for those around me.
Amen.
