"Cambridge did not grant degrees to women until 1948."

Stumbling over an article on Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin, I found this fact in Wikipedia sourced on Rita McWilliams Tullberg's book "Women at Cambridge" (1975).

“Harvard University announced today the appointment of Dr. Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin as Professor of Astronomy. She is the first woman to attain full professorship at Harvard through regular faculty promotion.” June 21, 1956

Surprisingly many attempted to illustrate her in a picture. Now you go and learn about Cecilia Payne!

Ice losses are faster than presumed. The consequences will be fatal. You cannot refreeze a melted glacier without an ice age. This can create high tides and eventually sink whole regions, which are now populated. But it can also stop streams in the ocean to change course. Remember Finding Nemo? That one, for instance.
Here is the bad news:

Modelling results suggest that ice sheets may be more vulnerable to ocean water intrusion at the grounding zone than previously thought due to a potential tipping point that leads to runaway melting.

This is just apocalyptic.

One of the world’s most remote populations must deal with a flood of multinational plastic, much of it tossed overboard by the factory fishing ships hoovering up sealife just offshore
