In the small Co-operation Partnership "Il était une fois ..." which was started in December 2025, we collected 15 Roma fairy tales from female storytellers settled in Oberhausen, Essen, Düsseldorf, Dinslaken and Wuppertal. They all appreciated the opportunity to be taken back in their own childhood when their grandparents told them the stories. They are proud of being able to contribute to the project and asked us to keep them informed about the results and the further steps after it.

The stories were collected in Romanes and translated into English. At the moment, we are translating them into German.

Now, all fairy tales from France, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and The Netherlands will be put together in order to select the final ones that should be published in a European Roma fairy tale book in the follow-up project.

Furthermore, the project partners collected information about publishing houses and Roma artists who might be appointed for illustrating this fairy tale book.

Since 1 September 2025, JugendStil e.V. has been partner in the Small Co-operation Partnership "Il était une fois ...". Together with the French co-ordinator and the partners from Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia and The Netherlands, we would like to achieve the following main result of the project: a selection of 90 Roma fairy tales in the mainly spoken Romanes dialects of the partner countries and in English.

After the Kick-off Meeting in Germany, the partner organisations have been collecting the fairy tales. Now, they will be categorised and compared.

The project is funded from the ERASMUS+ programme.
