WIDOW'S HOPE'S vision is to help widows in India become financially independent by providing them regular monetary support so that they can take better care of themselves and their children. Also, to empower women by funding them to start income generation projects to earn a livelihood and support their families. THE STORY behind the work is directly connected to Vikram's personal experiences. He

saw his widow mother struggle hard to provide for him and his siblings. He would often tell us about his childhood days and how his mother (my grandmother) worked in the fields, gathered wood, fetched water from a nearby stream, and took care of household chores all without any income or financial support. Growing up in India I have witnessed with my own eyes how hard it is for women who have lost their husbands. In recent years he has seen two of his aunts in India become widows. One of whose husband died when she was still very young and had school-going children. Then some of his friends' fathers passed away before their time. He saw first hand how this affected the women and their families. Most of these women were totally dependent on their husbands for livelihood and sustenance. Now with their only source of income cut off, they literally had to struggle to survive. You might be thinking – why don't they get a job? Well firstly many of them are not educated and have no work experience or skills. All they have done is to take care of their homes - cooking, washing, cleaning, and so on. Secondly, they don't have the confidence to step out in a male-dominated society. They feel vulnerable and weak. It's here where you and I have the opportunity to step in and encourage them by our support and help.

We teach widows practical skills, such as tailoring, cattle rearing and breeding, and baking, so they can earn a reliable income each month.
