Americans at FIS

This group has been created to support Americans at FIS. We are welcoming new members every month. In anticipation of this please share anything you feel we could share with other incoming Americans Family to help them prepare. This is the previous letter we are updating;

Greetings,

As the FIS Elementary School Representatives for the USA, let us wish you a warm welcome to FIS! To help with your transition, please find attached a 'Welcome Packet' we send to all of the American families that can serve as a reference. In addition, on Facebook there is a FIS - Oberursel Community Group, as well as an Americans in FIS group. Both are closed groups, but if you add us we can invite you.

FIS elementary provides almost all the school supplies, but there are a couple helpful things to have on hand when school starts:

Your child will need headphones with a microphone. They sell these at the FIS book store, or you can bring your own.

Frankfurt can get very wet, so ES students are asked to bring PE shoes in a bag at the beginning of the year to help keep the gym floor in good shape

Children get outside in all sorts of weather, so good rain gear is important (rain jacket, boots, and perhaps even rain pants - though optional).

I encourage you to join us for the following welcome events this summer. I will be there and would love to meet you and welcome you in person!

* FIS Oberursel Families Afternoon at the Pool Saturday, DATE Seedammbad Pool in Bad Homburg Address: Seedammbad, Seedammweg 7, 61350 Bad Homburg Entrance costs: adults €6, children 5–17 years €3.50 A member of the Parent Teacher Group (PTG) will meet with interested families at the Seedammbad in Bad Homburg for an afternoon at the pool. The location has both an indoor and outdoor pool so that the group can meet independently of the weather. Please note: They will wait from 12:30–12:50 at the ticket booth for arrivals.

* Morning on the Playground DATE FIS Oberursel Elementary School Playground Children can interact with one another on the playground while parents chat over a cup of coffee. We will move inside in case of rain. Drinks will be provided.

As for general Frankfurt information, one of the most important pieces of information that I was given upon moving to Germany is that not all ERs see children. Here is some information about ERs that see kids near Frankfurt: The hospital with the children's section is Frankfurt Höchst. It is in Höchst - not too far from the school. It’s probably where you would end up: http://www.klinikumfrankfurt.de You can request a private room if you have private insurance. Other options are Bad Soden which is the MTK hospital and private clinic http://www.kliniken-mtk.de/cipp/mtk/lib/pub. Also recommended the Clementine hospital in Frankfurt: http://www.clementine-kinderhospital.de.
