Liebe Ruderreck*innen

Leider können wir nur bestätigen, was sich in den Wochen seit Meldeschluss abgezeichnet hat. Die 3. Amrum Challenge kann dieses Jahr nicht ausgetragen werden.

Heute wären es noch 6 Wochen bis zur Regatta und es gibt bestenfalls skeptische Prognosen, aber keine Regeln, die für den Zeitraum Mitte Mai gelten bzw. gelten könnten. Nicht mal rudern ist in Berlin erlaubt, nur Einer oder mit „Loch“ und das auch noch bis auf weiteres. Auf Amrum dürfen bis 18. April nur Zweit-Wohnsitz Bewohner auf die Insel kommen. Über dieses Datum hinaus gibt es noch keine Regelung für Amrum. Für Veranstaltungen gibt es insbesondere wenig Hoffnung.

Wir haben mit allen Partnern, Organisatoren und Helfern vereinbart, dass wir nur starten, wenn wir wenigstens 6 Wochen Zeit haben, alle Zusagen und Kosten verbindlich einzugehen.

Somit müssen wir die 3. Amrum Challenge noch einmal vertagen, nach 2020 und 2021 müssen wir auf 2022 verschieben. Alle guten Dinge sind drei. Alle die bereits überwiesen hatten, erhalten die Rücküberweisung.

Vielen Dank für Eure Meldungen und Unterstützung, wir haben es gerne versucht und hatten vor dem Meldeschluss auch noch einen hoffnungsvollen, positiven Pfad ausgemacht. Hätte, hätte… Ergometerkette.

Wir hoffen, dass Ihr alle gesund bleibt und auch am Ruder bleibt, so gut es geht. Sollte sich Mitte Mai für das Himmelfahrt Wochenende die Situation doch noch zum Guten wenden, werden Tobias und ich, Michael, auf Amrum sein, mit Familien. Doppelzweier und Einer sind ganzjährig vor Ort. Dann wollen wir möglichst viel Coastal Rowing ermöglichen.

Bitte lasst uns doch wissen, wenn Ihr trotzdem plant nach Amrum zu kommen und dann kurz vor Himmelfahrt nochmal, damit wir das beste aus den Umständen machen können.

Mit unseren Partnern haben wir das Datum für die nächste Amrum Challenge festgelegt. Bitte merkt Euch diesen Termin schon einmal vor:

Dear Coastal Rowing friends

Unfortunately we have to cancel the Amrum Challenge in 2021. Due to the development of the corona pandemic since entries closed mid March, there is no regulatory frame announced, insight or expectable for mid May that would allow to host an event. All transferred funds will be returned.

Thank you for your support, we are now looking forward to next year. With our partners we have decided to host the next Amrum Challenge on:

26th to 29th May 2022.

Please save the date.

Again this is an extended weekend in Germany and other countries (Ascension). The tide will make it necessary to start racing at 8:30 am on Thursdays. Please take this into account. All details will follow till end of this year.

Should it be appropriate to travel to Amrum at the date of this years cancelled regatta, please let us know, if you are planning to come. We would then try to arrange for the best private use of the coastal rowing boats available. A double and a single are stationery all year at Surfschule Boyens.

Super Meldeergebnis! Vielen Dank für das Vertrauen. 250 Rollsitze sind vergeben, 31 Vereine melden zur 3. Amrum Challenge.

Für das erste Deutsche Coastal Rowing Championat haben sich 28 Teilnehmer (7 CW1x, 21 CM1x) angemeldet.

Das größte Kontingent stellt wiederum Allemania Hamburg mit dem amtierenden Vize-Weltmeister Lars Wichert an der Spitze.

Alle DRV Regatten haben dieses Jahr ein Absagedatum. Am 31.3.2021 wird die Amrum Challenge, 6 Wochen vor der Regatta, bestätigt oder abgesagt.

Die Ruderer haben Ihren Beitrag durch die zahlreichen Meldungen geleistet. Die Pandemie Situation muss sich jetzt noch positiv entwickeln. Unsere Hoffnung ruht darauf, dass sich die Situation, ähnlich wie beim Wetter, trotz schlechter Aussichten, doch noch aufklärt.

Toi, toi, toi. Wir nähern uns mit jedem Schlag dem Ziel, der Beach Arena auf Amrum!!

1st Deutsches Coastal Rowing Championat & 3. Amrum Challenge 13.-16. Mai 2021!!!

Wir bereiten alles vor, wenn genug Meldungen bis 10.3. eingegangen sind, wird am 31.3. gemeinsam entschieden, ob wir es austragen können... und dann werden historisch!, die ersten Coastal Rowing Champions in die deutsche Rudergeschichte eingehen, an Himmelfahrt, 13.-16. Mai 2021!

Also, ran an die Meldezettel...die Plätze sind begrenzt, 300 Teilnehmer maximal.

"The IOC Executive Board praised the strong case put forward by World Rowing regarding the added value of this discipline to the Olympic programme, flexibly adapting to most coastal and open water areas and adding a new accessible development opportunity for island and coastal nations around the world. These strong arguments were indeed the basis for its successful introduction to the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026.
However, in light of the impact of the COVID19 pandemic and the need to reduce costs and complexity for Paris 2024 specifically highlighted by IOC Executive Board, the Commission concluded that no new disciplines could be added across any sport. Therefore, for Paris 2024, the Commission proposed to continue with the existing rowing programme of 14 events.
In view of Los Angeles 2028, the Olympic Programme Commission and the IOC Executive Board highlighted how the beach nature of the Coastal Rowing events could represent a very strong fit with the vision and venue landscape of Los Angeles and, following the definition of the LA2028 Sport Programme due in 2021, look forward to positively considering the inclusion of Coastal Rowing in the event programme for Los Angeles 2028."

And yes, the corona aspect is most important for the distant observer: this is outdoor, strong breeze, solo rowing, distances are kept in the action except for very short span passing motions...lots of salt water...
