Spatial Narratives of Commoning
A conversation with Imaginary Famagusta and Merve Gül Özokcu
How do people make something in common when the ground under them has been divided, closed off or abandoned?
For the first public conversation of Spatial Narratives of Commoning, we bring together two practices that build common ground on contested land. Imaginary Famagusta developed imaginaries of future commons with Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities in Famagusta, a city divided for the past 52 years. Merve Gül Özokcu works on the commons, eco-feminist narratives and spatial justice, with Herkes İçin Mimarlık and Arazi Assembly across Turkey.
Each practice presents its work, followed by a conversation moderated by Melissa Harrison and Yelta Köm, and questions from the audience.

solito caleb is a Berlin-based artist moving between leftfield electronics and UK-forward club and bass sounds. They are a co-founder of RAPSODICA, a project placing sound and visual work in unconventional spaces. Their sets are patient and physical, built for sound systems yet restless at the edges.

In AVANTGUARDIANS, extinct anatomies return as contemporary digital beings. Botanical structures, fossils, corals, fungi, cephalopods and microorganisms become source material for artificial organisms, composite bodies and speculative habitats.

Rather than reconstructing nature, TANJA VUJINOVIC asks how unfamiliar species might emerge through biological observation, computation and synthetic image systems.

The presentation brings together works from AVANTGUARDIANS, ONENESS and BLOOM, alongside passages through the virtual worlds of AVANTGARDEN. Across moving images and digital environments, forms hover between organism, sculpture, avatar and landscape.

Virtual space becomes a laboratory for ecological imagination: a place where biological memory, extinct bodies and computation generate new relationships between living and synthetic systems.

Tanja Vujinović is a multimedia artist working across virtual worlds, moving image, sculpture, sound and synthetic image systems. Working with 3D environments, virtual reality, generative image systems and audiovisual installations, she constructs living ecologies populated by avatars, proto-machines and synthetic species. Her work has been exhibited internationally in museums, galleries and festivals for more than two decades.

As part of Berlin New Media Week, >top Transdisciplinary presents ROOT/CLOUD, a three-day exhibition and public programme featuring TANJA VUJINOVIC and Funguy Lab curated by Xristina Sarli .
ROOT/CLOUD moves between two interconnected strata.

CLOUD unfolds through Tanja Vujinović’s AVANTGUARDIANS: virtual environments, moving images, extinct anatomies, artificial organisms and speculative habitats shaped by ecological memory.

ROOT descends into the basement biolab with two living installations by Kexin Wang.
MYCELIAN uses artificial intelligence and dynamic light to guide living growth into selected patterns. BIOCOMPILER writes computational problems in light, allowing the slime mold Physarum polycephalum to answer by growing.

Together, the works ask:
If the avant-garde once claimed to lead society towards the future, what happens when that future is co-produced by fungi, algorithms, extinct organisms, technological systems and speculative species?
The cloud has roots. The underground is already computational.

ecoSYNTH² — Film Festival Programme 🌱🎞️

The second edition of ecoSYNTH² Film Festival unfolds this Friday 30.01, as part of TOP Lab’s programme for Vorspiel 2026 (CTM × transmediale) — inside our underground BIOLAB.

A full-day constellation of film screenings, VR works, talks, exhibitions, and performances, exploring living interfaces, multispecies alchemy, and more-than-human ways of sensing, remembering, and imagining the world.

Three curated screening programmes run throughout the day, tracing ecologies across landscapes, cultures, myths, and technologies — with the final programme followed by the ecoSYNTH² Awards.

The film screenings are part of our two-day ecoSYNTH² programme.
