A New Chapter in Our Production Journey 🚀

Growth is about more than bigger facilities — it's about creating opportunities, improving efficiency, and empowering people.

We are proud to announce the successful transition of production operations from our Kibera West Factory to our new Headquarters Factory. This milestone has increased our production capacity to 600 TwistBlocks per day, enabling us to support the delivery of more affordable homes, schools, and community infrastructure while maintaining the quality our partners and communities rely on.

With this expansion, we are welcoming new team members, creating more employment opportunities, and providing our production teams with a larger, safer, and healthier working environment. We also introduced new production uniforms, uniting colleagues from our HQ and Kibera East factories under one shared identity.

A big thank you to our dedicated team whose hard work makes this growth possible every day. Together, we are building opportunities, strengthening communities, and advancing affordable housing solutions.

The foundation is complete!

A major milestone has been reached at the future Kibera Silanga Primary School in Nairobi: the foundation slab has been successfully completed, marking the end of the first construction phase and the start of the superstructure.

Over the past weeks, the team finalized the foundation beams, completed the substructure walls, carried out extensive filling and compaction works and poured the concrete floor slab. Despite challenging site conditions and a very narrow access route to the construction area, progress continued steadily thanks to the dedication of everyone involved.

What started with community meetings, planning sessions, and the signing of key agreements is now becoming a school that will provide children in Kibera with a safe and inspiring place to learn.

Safety starts with knowledge. 💪🏾

Last week, our production team participated in a workplace safety training in our new factory in Kibera. The focus was on proper equipment handling, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency response, and maintaining a safe working environment.

By continuously equipping our team with safety knowledge and practical skills, we strengthen not only workplace wellbeing but also the quality and efficiency of our production operations.

A safe team is a productive team.

Thanks to FEDAN Fire solutions Ltd and their trainer Karanja who conducted a great training for our team.

Together with Park, an interdisciplinary collective of architects, designers, and researchers based in Milan, and the Technical University of Munich – Professorship of Architecture and Design, this walk-in h**pcrete installation transforms the idea of a wall into a space for connection, play, and shared experience.

For us at Start Somewhere, this project is a special milestone: the first real-world pilot of TwistBlock 2.0, our reusable building system made from low-impact h**p lime bricks. The blocks were produced by TUM students in a campus workshop. It shows how circular materials and collaborative design can unlock new possibilities for architecture.
