What a day in Garching. 🌍

Last Wednesday, we had the honor of welcoming Sara Nuru and Samantha Cristoforetti to TUM Sustainability Day x TUM Speakers Series.

Two women. Two extraordinary paths. One powerful afternoon.

🌱 Sara Nuru took us from the runways of GNTM to the coffee farms of Ethiopia. As sustainability ambassador, co-founder of nuruCoffee and Karl Kübel Prize laureate, she showed what it truly means to build something with purpose.

🚀 Samantha Cristoforetti, ESA astronaut and TUM alumna, returned to the very campus where her journey began. The first European woman to command the ISS received her Silver Diploma from TUM President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann and reminded us:

“My time at TUM has been basically the launchpad for my career.”

Moments like these are why we do what we do. Thank you to everyone who joined us, Cara Speer for moderating and to for this incredible collaboration.

From driving a taxi in Mainz to the summit of global finance and politics. 🚕🏦

What an evening! We had the great honor of welcoming Dr. Jörg Kukies to kick off the Sommersemester 2026 at the TUM Speakers Series, with a fully packed Audimax of 800 students and outstanding moderation by Paul Amthor. 💭

A big thank you to innocent for keeping us refreshed! 🍹

Drawing from his remarkable career, nearly two decades at Goldman Sachs, his time as State Secretary and Federal Minister of Finance, and his upcoming role as CEO of Morgan Stanley Europe, Dr. Kukies shared powerful insights at the intersection of finance, policy, and leadership.

🔑 Key Takeaways 🔑

🏦 Leadership principles don’t change between public and private sector. Work ethic, passion, and collaboration matter everywhere. The public sector’s role is often underestimated, yet crucial in times of crisis.

🇪🇺 Europe struggles to scale startups due to limited VC, heavy regulation, and structural barriers, despite founding just as many as the US.

🔎 Germany’s priorities: tax reform, lower energy costs, less bureaucracy, and stronger incentives for innovation.

💡 His advice to students: “Passion is important. Don’t waste time. Take risks.”
Thank you Dr. Kukies, Prof. Dr. Christoph Kaserer, the TUM School of Management, and our incredible team! See you at the next one. 🚀🎙️

From the trading floors of Goldman Sachs to the Federal Ministry of Finance: the TUM Speakers Series is honored to welcome Dr. Jörg Kukies for an exclusive evening at the intersection of high finance and European politics. 💼
Having built a career spanning investment banking, the German federal government, and now Morgan Stanley, Dr. Kukies brings a rare dual perspective: that of a market insider who has shaped economic, financial, and climate policy at the highest levels of the German state. A Harvard Kennedy School and University of Chicago alumnus, he served as State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Chancellery before his appointment as Federal Minister of Finance in 2024 and now transitions back to lead Morgan Stanley's operations in Germany and Austria.
The event will feature a moderated discussion and a Q&A session, offering a unique opportunity to engage directly with one of Europe's most influential figures at the nexus of capital markets and political power.
