World Uyghur Congress (WUC) is an international umbrella organization promoting Uyghur human rights and a peaceful solution for the conflict in East Turkestan. The WUC was established on 16 April 2004 in Munich, Germany, after the East Turkestan National Congress and the World Uyghur Youth Congress merged into one united organisation.

🇨🇿WUC and UZDM e.V. Delegation Attends Forum 2000 in Prague

WUC President Turgunjan Alawdun and UZDM President Dolkun Isa are attending Forum 2000 in Prague, where they are engaging with political representatives to raise awareness of the ongoing human rights situation in East Turkistan.

As part of their advocacy efforts, the delegation met with Jiří Oberfalzer, Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Czech Republic, to discuss the current situation in East Turkistan, individual cases of Uyghurs facing persecution, and transnational repression targeting Uyghur communities in Europe and around the world.

During the forum, the delegation also had the opportunity to meet German MP Roderich Kiesewetter and Bettina Stark-Watzinger, former Member of the German Bundestag and former Federal Minister of Education and Research.

Additionally, at the opening of the forum, the delegation met with two inspiring figures: Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, the democratic leader of Belarus, and Tawakkol Karman, a Yemeni journalist, politician, and recipient of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize.

PRESS RELEASE: WUC raises concerns over the award of Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay

On 9 October 2026, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Navanethem “Navi” Pillay in recognition of her efforts to promote peace and international law.

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) expresses serious concerns about this decision in light of actions taken by Pillay during her tenure as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014.

Under her leadership the NGO liaison office shared the names of Uyghur and other Chinese human rights defenders, as well as information about their participation in the UN Human Rights Council, with the Chinese government without their consent and despite the potential risks to the individuals concerned and their families.

Among those affected was Dolkun Isa, former president of the WUC, who faced significant obstacles in obtaining accreditation and accessing the UN Human Rights Council between 2012 and 2013. Isa described the disclosure of information to the Chinese government as “a profound betrayal of trust by an institution that should have protected us.”

On 30 October, WUC Project Assistant Cagatay Karaköse and UZDM President Dolkun Isa participated in the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child’s Pre-Sessional Working Group ahead of China’s upcoming review. They raised concerns regarding the rights of Uyghur children, including family separation, placement in state-run boarding schools, access to education, cultural and religious rights, discrimination, and forced labour. The oral statement highlighted estimates that at least 143,228 mostly Uyghur children had been separated from one or both parents by late 2018 in connection with the mass detention campaign, and called on the Committee to seek detailed information from China on the scale and circumstances of family separation.

During the pre-session, the organisations urged the Committee to give particular attention to Uyghur children in its dialogue with China and to seek concrete information on measures protecting them from discrimination, preventing family separation, and ensuring their rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Yesterday, WUC President Turgunjan Alawdun, WUC Berlin Office Director Gheyyur Kurban, members of the Uyghur community, Hongkongers, Tibetans, and other communities came together to protest against the Chinese government’s repressive policies.

We thank everyone who joined us and stood together in solidarity with us.

Today, the Uyghur community in Turkey gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate General in Istanbul to mark October 1, protesting China’s policies in East Turkistan and calling for an end to the ongoing repression of the Uyghur people.

We thank everyone who joined us and stood in solidarity with the Uyghur people’s fight for freedom, human rights, and justice.
