This is the official page of the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO). The World Endoscopy Organization is a non-profit umbrella organization covering 3 geographical zones: Asia-Pacific (APSDE), Europe/Mediterranean (ESGE) and the Americas (SIED). For more than 50 years, WEO has led the promotion of high quality and safe endoscopy worldwide, through training, education and research.

🌍 Making a difference in endoscopy care in Namibia!

From 27-29 September, the WEO Outreach Program returned to Windhoek Central Hospital for three inspiring days of training and teamwork.

A few highlights from the course:

🟩 45 healthcare professionals — 21 doctors and 24 nurses — joined the training.
🟩 Local doctors gained hands-on experience with expert guidance, helping build skills and confidence.
🟩 Telementoring in action! We successfully connected procedures in Windhoek with mentors in Oslo, opening new possibilities for remote support.

A big thank you to the dedicated local team, Olympus Corporation, and MICRO-TECH Endoscopy for helping make this training possible. Together, we’re strengthening local expertise and working towards better access to endoscopy care. 💚

🌍 ENDO 2026 Makes History in Africa!

From September 24-26, Cape Town welcomed 1,447 participants from 86 countries for ENDO 2026, marking the first time the world's leading GI endoscopy congress was held in Africa.

Through the collaboration of WEO, SAGES, ASSA, and SASES, delegates experienced world-class science, live demonstrations, hands-on training, and invaluable opportunities for global networking and collaboration.

As we close this historic chapter, we thank everyone who contributed to its success!

🌟 PET South Africa 2026 | Cape Town

A great day of learning and connecting at the Program for Endoscopic Teachers (PET) South Africa 2026!

📍 Cape Town | 23 September 2026

👥 38 participants from across Africa

🌍 Local and international faculty

🩺 Interactive teaching, case discussions & hands-on simulation

PET focuses on helping endoscopy educators strengthen their teaching skills and develop effective approaches to training the next generation of endoscopists.

💬 Prof Douglas Faigel, Course Director:

“The PET Course was a great success. The delegates, local and international faculty were enthusiastic participants. The one-day course focused on essential aspects of teaching endoscopy, and all agree that their skills were much improved.”

“The interaction between the faculty and the delegates was exceptional. The delegates were involved fully during the program. Also, everyone had a chance on hands-on stations which was very good.”

🌟 A new chapter begins for the World Endoscopy Organization!

We are delighted to announce Dr. Asadur Jorge Tchekmedyian Balian of Uruguay as WEO President for 2026-2028.

With his vision and leadership, WEO will continue to strengthen its global commitment to advancing endoscopy through education, innovation, quality, safety, and equitable access to care.

Congratulations, Dr. Tchekmedyian! We look forward to building on WEO's momentum together and continuing to unite the global endoscopy community in improving patient outcomes around the world. 🌍 🎉

🌍 ENDO 2026 — Day 3, and we’ve reached the finish line! 🥹

The final day brought more great events — from the World Cup Video Forum to conversations on endoscopy in resource-limited areas, colorectal cancer, AI in endoscopy, and more.

And then came the big moment: the ENDO 2026 Closing Ceremony. A chance to look back at an incredible congress and look ahead to what’s next for WEO. 💚

We officially welcomed Dr Asadur Jorge Tchekmedyian as the new WEO President. His message was clear: ahead is only the best, and we’re all sharing the same vision for WEO and endoscopy around the world.

And as one chapter closes, another one is already waiting. Let’s just say: see you in Panama in two years. 😉

For now, we’re going to catch our breath and enjoy a well-earned rest.
