IAPA was founded by leading au pair organisations in 1994 at the WYSTC (World Youth and Student Travel Conference) in Vancouver, Canada. IAPA’s main aim is to protect the rights of all au pairs and host families and at the same time establish internationally approved guidelines for au pair exchange programmes. With growth in the industry came the need for regulation at an international level. IAPA

aims to meet this need by developing a system of self-regulation and by introducing professional standards which our member organizations have to meet.

🏆 Meet Jemimah Waceke Mwithiga – the 2026 IAPA Au Pair of the Year! ⁠

From Kenya to Denmark, Jemimah (Mimah) embraced a new culture with open arms, learned Danish, and became a beloved older sister to her host kids. Her warmth, resilience, and dedication made her family’s life richer, blending Kenyan traditions with Danish culture.⁠
At the -IAC Conference in Sofia, Mimah received the 2026 IAPA Au Pair of the Year Award from IAPA´s Managing Director. Her emotional speech reminded us all: "Being an au pair is the best way to experience real cultural exchange."⁠
Mimah conquered the hearts of the conference attendees with her warm, open, and positive personality.⁠
Now thriving as an au pair in the Netherlands, Mimah continues to inspire with her adaptability and love for the program. 💛⁠

We’re thrilled to announce that Aupairtrip has joined IAPA as our newest associate member!
Many au pairs already know Aupairtrip as a trusted name on social media. Now, they’ve launched an app designed exclusively for au pairs—helping them find travel buddies, connect with a global community, and enjoy a safe space to share their experiences.
But that’s not all! The app is also a valuable tool for agencies, making it easier to stay connected with their au pairs in a fun and engaging way.

We know there is confusion about recent news on a U.S. visa halt for certain countries.⁠
Important clarification:⁠
👉 J-1 au pair visas are NOT affected.⁠
The announcement only concerns immigrant visas (for people who want to live permanently in the U.S.).⁠
Exchange programs and temporary visas are not included.⁠
⁠
This means:⁠
• Au pair programs continue as usual⁠
• J-1 visa applications can still submitted normally⁠
⁠
We understand that visa news can be worrying. IAPA is monitoring the situation closely and will share updates if anything changes. Find regular updates on our website www.iapa.org⁠

Denmark: New Au Pair Rates in Effect! 🇩🇰⁠
From 1 January 2026, au pairs who apply from this date onwards will receive higher financial support:⁠
💰 Monthly allowance: DKK 5,250 (~EUR 700)⁠
📚 Language classes contribution: DKK 20,900 (~EUR 2,800)⁠
These changes help new au pairs focus on learning Danish and enjoying the cultural exchange.
