As part of a growing conversation across the E5 (🇩🇪 🇫🇷 🇬🇧 🇮🇹 🇵🇱), our European Defense Roundtable took us to the UK.

Set against the historic backdrop of Ditchley Park, voices from government, the military, industry, and civil society came together to tackle Europe’s most pressing security challenges.

From the discussions, 3️⃣ key themes emerged:

🛡️ A more European-led NATO requires Europe to fully deliver on its defense spending and step up its leadership.

🤝 Ukraine is not only a partner of Europeans and the E5—Ukraine and Europe are indispensable for each other’s security.

💬 Diverging threat perceptions across the E5 shape debates on defense spending, which is why clear communication about its necessity is essential.

But the conversation doesn’t stop here.
📍 Next stop for our Roundtable series: Rome 🇮🇹

While the men’s football World Cup is in full swing, here’s a look at our own international tournament. ⚽

The inaugural Munich Security Cup kicked off in 2019, with ICAN taking home the very first trophy. Since then, the Cup has become a beloved part of the Munich Security Conference agenda.

One familiar face who knows what it takes to lift that trophy? Former Head of the German Chancellery Wolfgang Schmidt, who first won in 2020 and again at . 🏆

This week, he joins “The Art of Diplomacy,” sharing insights that go far beyond table football: from decisions on military support for to Germany’s role in keeping Europe united, the diplomacy that led China to publicly oppose Russia’s nuclear threats, and the prisoner exchange that secured the release of Evan Gershkovich and other political prisoners held in Russia.

As our hosts and remind us: whether in table football or diplomacy, it’s all about endurance, strategy, staying cool under pressure, and seizing your moment.

This was the European Defense Roundtable in Paris 🇫🇷

In a rapidly evolving security environment, MSC brought together leading voices from government, defense, academia, and industry in the French capital to address key priorities for Europe’s security.

💡 The main takeaway? Europe must move faster to strengthen its defense industrial base and build a more credible deterrence and defense posture. Participants agreed also on the role of coalitions such as the European Group of Five (E5) in driving European security cooperation.

As our Roundtable series continues across the E5, the next stop is📍 Ditchley Park, UK 🇬🇧

At a pivotal moment for Europe’s defense, yesterday’s European Defense Townhall in Paris marked the second stop of our new pan-European dialogue series.
