Apply for the Warsaw Next workshop!

The call for applications for the 14th edition of the Warsaw Next workshop is now open until September 15. The event will take place October 16-19, 2024, as part of the 40th Warsaw Film Festival

Warsaw Next is a workshop for young filmmakers (directors, screenwriters and producers) from Poland, Belarus and Ukraine, as well film and art school students, who are currently working on their first feature film. The workshop features a series of masterclasses, lectures and panel discussions with filmmakers and industry representatives. This year, participants will also be able to work on their projects with renowned script consultants. Participation in the workshops is an excellent opportunity to network, exchange ideas and experiences, and, above all, gain practical knowledge about the film market.

Each year Warsaw Next hosts guests from Poland and abroad: representatives of local and international film industry and filmmakers with a significant track record. In previous years, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the film industry, among others, from producers: Marek Rozenbaum of Transfax Film Productions, Nik Powell of Scala Productions (earlier Palace Pictures), Dariusz Jabłoński of Apple Film Production, and Ewa Puszczyńska of Opus Film and Extreme Emotions; from film festival representatives: Piers Handling, the longtime director of the Toronto Film Festival, and Jule Rozite, a programmer at the Tribeca Film Festival; from film directors, such as Joanna Kos-Krauze, Andrzej Jakimowski and Sławomir Fabicki; from script consultants Franz Rodenkirchen and Françoise von Roy; and a pitching expert Gabriele Brunnenmeyer. A list of this year's guests will be available on the Festival's website and on social media at the beginning of October.

Given that some of the activities will be conducted in English, good knowledge of the English language is required to participate in the workshop.

The deadline for submitting applications is September 15, 2024. The cost of the workshop is PLN 250 and includes the Festival accreditation, entitling you to attend film screenings, valid for the entire period of the Festival. Costs of travel and accommodation are not covered.

The organizers will select participants from the pool of applicants. The selection of participants is at the sole discretion of the organizers who are not compelled to disclose the reasons for their choices.

To participate, please fill out the application form available here:

European Solidarity Fund for Ukrainian Films 2024 calls for projects are now open!

This semester, two specific calls are launched: submit your applications until March 15th for finalisation and April 5th for development.

The European Solidarity Fund for Ukrainian Films is an initiative launched in February 2023 to support Ukrainian filmmakers while fostering coproductions. In its first year, the fund has supported 29 projects, 16 in development and 13 in finalisation.

Two years after the full-scale invasion in Ukraine and ten years after the beginning of the war, ESFUF members have collectively agreed to renew it for another year. The fund now brings together 20 contributors from 19 different countries, members of the EFAD association, and the association itself.

The eligible projects are long-length (over 60 minutes) cinematographic works directed by a Ukrainian filmmaker, intended to be first released in theatres. They belong to the genres of fiction, documentary, and animation. They are coproduced between a Ukrainian production company and a production companies established in the ESFUF contributing countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom).

The total budget of the scheme in 2024 is 1 500 000 €. The amount of the development support is capped at 25 000 € for documentaries and at 50 000 € for fiction or animation. Finalisation support is capped at 75 000 €.

The submitted projects are selected by a committee of independent experts.
The guidelines of the Fund are available in English and in Ukrainian on the website of the fund, and in French on the CNC’s website.

Important information:
A project not selected following a first submission session may be resubmitted twice for the same grant. In the case of a second or third application, you’ll have to provide a note stating the developments and changes made since the previous application.

Details:

After having supported various actions for Ukraine → at national and European level, EFAD and its members wanted to unite forces to launch a dedicated support for Ukrainian filmmakers, to help them completing their films or developing new projects, while fostering coproductions.
