Supporting education of children in South Africa and Lesotho

We are on a mission to support the education of children in Southern Africa who can’t afford the costs of quality education. We do this through raising funds for vetted charities in South Africa and Lesotho. Our aim is to create an engaged community of friends and sponsors who also believe that through education we can generate sustainable change in the lives of children and eventually their communities. We build close partnerships with our partner organisations in South Africa, all recipients of funds have been carefully vetted and are transparent in their dealings with Sawabona Africa.
100 % of donations received in Germany are transferred to the charity of your choice. Help us give children in South Africa a brighter future which they truly deserve.

Uthando means love. 19 years on, they're still proving it's something you do. 💛

Happy belated birthday, ! 🎂 Late card, same big cheer.

James Fernie, Uthando's Founding Director, set out to shine a light on the heroes doing amazing work in their own communities. Since 2007, Uthando has been bringing people across Cape Town to meet them. Last week the team unveiled a Peace Bench 🕊️ and honoured the people on the ground.

Our partnership is young. Their work is 19 years deep.

And tonight in Munich we raise a glass to the one of the projects we support with Uthando🍷

We visited Learn to Earn last year and saw the sewing and cooking classes in action. Learn to Earn is a skills-training and job-creation organisation that has spent nearly four decades helping unemployed adults earn their own income, with training in sewing, baking, handyman work and barista skills, plus life skills sessions alongside.

Their motto says it best: a hand up, not a hand out.

Watching a room full of women learn a skill they can earn a living from is something we still think about.

Learn to Earn is one of the Uthando (Love) projects we support.

Flashback Friday 📸

Before PYMA had its first Sawabona Africa-funded classroom, our founder Zilla and her husband Claus squeezed into a tiny room in Soweto just to find a place to sit.
That first site visit is where it all began — one overcrowded classroom, a waiting list of children who wanted in, and a community in Soweto that welcomed two strangers from Germany like old friends. Not long after, the first container classroom arrived, and the video of PYMA's team seeing it for the first time still gets us every time. 🥹
