1,000 Days of Suffering in Gaza

One thousand days have passed since the war in Gaza began, amid continued reports of serious violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, resulting in extensive civilian casualties and widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure.

The European International Commission for Development and Human Rights (EICDHR) expresses its profound concern over the ongoing Israeli military operations and their devastating humanitarian consequences, including the large number of civilian deaths, the extensive destruction of homes and civilian facilities, and the continuing restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian aid, which have deepened the suffering of the population in the Gaza Strip.

EICDHR reaffirms that the protection of civilians is a fundamental obligation under international law. All alleged violations of international law must be subject to independent, impartial, and transparent investigations, and those responsible must be held accountable in accordance with international legal standards, putting an end to impunity.

The Commission further calls for an immediate end to attacks affecting civilians, the unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance, the protection of humanitarian personnel, and full respect for international law and relevant international resolutions.

There can be no lasting peace without justice, no justice without accountability, and no human dignity while civilians continue to suffer.

Protecting heritage is a national and human responsibility.

The destruction of historic landmarks affects not only buildings but also the cultural identity and collective memory of communities.

The European International Commission for Development and Human Rights (EICDHR) calls for the protection of cultural heritage, respect for public property, and transparent investigations into any actions that may endanger historic sites, in accordance with the principles of the rule of law and international standards for the protection of cultural heritage.

Cities preserve their future by safeguarding their history.

Four months have passed since the killing of human rights defender Linar Mohammed. Yet, no public information has been released regarding the progress or outcome of the investigation.

The European International Commission for Development and Human Rights (EICDHR) calls on the Iraqi authorities to ensure a prompt, independent, and transparent investigation, hold those responsible accountable through fair judicial proceedings, and strengthen protection for human rights defenders, journalists, and civil society activists.

Justice delayed undermines public trust. Accountability is essential to uphold the rule of law and protect fundamental human rights.
