Henry Puna Appointed Chair of To Tatou Vai
Former Prime Minister and former Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General Henry Puna has been appointed Chairperson of To Tatou Vai, effective 8 June 2026.
The appointment was announced by the Cook Islands Investment Corporation (CIIC), with Puna succeeding Brian Mason, whose resignation as chairperson has been accepted by the CIIC Board.
CIIC Board Chair Fletcher Melvin thanked Mason for his service and contribution to the organisation during a key period in To Tatou Vai’s development.
“The CIIC Board sincerely thanks Brian Mason for his dedicated service and valuable contribution to To Tatou Vai and the wider CIIC Group,” Melvin said.
Melvin said Puna brings extensive governance, leadership and stakeholder engagement experience gained through decades of service in the Cook Islands and across the Pacific region.
Puna served as Prime Minister of the Cook Islands from 2010 to 2020 and as Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum from 2021 to 2024. He currently serves as Interim Director of the Pacific Islands Development Program in Hawai‘i and is a member of the East-West Center Board of Governors.
During his time as Prime Minister, Puna oversaw the development and implementation of the Te Mato Vai programme, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving the security, quality and sustainability of water supplies in the Cook Islands. The programme laid the foundation for the establishment of To Tatou Vai.
Puna said he was honoured to accept the appointment.
“To Tatou Vai plays a vital role in supporting the wellbeing of our communities through the delivery of essential water services. I look forward to working alongside the Board, management and stakeholders to build on the progress already achieved and support the organisation’s future priorities,” he said.
His appointment took effect on 8 June 2026.
