📣 The ACM A.M. Turing Award will be awarded again soon!

✨ It is an annual prize by the Association for Computing Machinery, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize in Computing”.

The recipients of the 2024 ACM A.M. Turing Award are Richard S. Sutton and Andrew Barto. We had the honor of welcoming Sutton to last year.

Check out his Spark Talk on “The Future of Artificial Intelligence” at the 12th HLF.

The next Abel Prize will be awarded soon! ✨

Did you know that the Abel Prize – recognizing pioneering scientific achievements in mathematics – is presented by the King of Norway?

💡 The last award (in 2025) went to Masaki Kashiwara “for his fundamental contributions to algebraic analysis and representation theory, in particular the development of the theory of D-modules and the discovery of crystal graphs.”

You can follow the announcement of this year’s Abel Prize recipient live on Thursday, March 19, at 12:00 p.m. (CET)

✨ It has been demonstrated time and again that the HLF has the power to bring talented people together, creating something truly special.

Today, we are pleased to share the recent cover story from Quanta Magazine: “The Man Who Stole Infinity.”

💡 The author, science journalist Joseph Howlett, joined as a travel grant journalist. During the forum, he met HLF alumnus Demian Nahuel Goos Bosco, who has been an active member of our alumni community since attending the 5th HLF in 2017.

Inspired by their encounter, Howlett wound up featuring Goos and some of his findings in mathematics history in this beautifully written article on the mathematician Georg Cantor:

New year, new numbers. 🔢✨
2025 spoiled us with mathematical fun facts.
So what about 2026?

Every new year on the HLFF Blog, we kick things off with a post containing mathematical facts about the year.
At first glance, 2026 seems ordinary.
But hidden inside is one mathematical twist that might outshine all of 2025. 👀

✨ Meet computer scientist Amanda Randles, the first young researcher to come back as a Laureate! She attended the initial edition of the Heidelberg Laureate Forum in 2013 and was later awarded the 2023 ACM Prize in Computing for her contributions to computational health.

Last year, when Randles returned as a Laureate for the 12th HLF, we took the opportunity to sit down with her for an exclusive interview as part of our “HLF Laureate Portrait” series.

The quantum revolution is here, raising new questions about our security.

🔐 Our digital world depends on encryption to keep data safe. But the encryption methods we trusted before may no longer be safe once quantum computing becomes widespread.

Since August 2024, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has been urging organizations to start using their post-quantum cryptography standards.
