BRAND DESIGN: Creating a brand's visual identity

Brand design, also known as corporate design, is the process of developing and maintaining a brand's visual identity to make it unique and recognizable. It is an important part of branding and combines creative design elements with strategic marketing concepts.

As a brand designer you will create logos that represent the essence of the brand and convey its message. You’ll carefully select colors and fonts that fit the brand's identity, and create a consistent visual language. You will also design packaging that attractively displays products and reinforces the brand message. Ensuring that the brand is represented online through website design, social media graphics and banners is also part of the job.

As a brand designer you must understand a brand's values, mission, and target audience in order to appropriately express its identity. Skills in graphic design software and visual design are essential. The ability to present ideas and communicate with clients is important in understanding and implementing their needs. Brand design plays a key role in how companies are perceived and how they stand out from the competition. By creating a strong visual identity, brand designers help strengthen the brand’s image and build long-term customer loyalty.

As a brand designer, you'll work in advertising and design agencies that develop brand strategies and creative design solutions for clients. Some large corporations have in-house design departments that focus on brand design. However, many brand designers work as freelancers, offering their services to a variety of clients.

IMPULSE FOR A NEW CURRICULUM – René Spitz explains how he implements Larry Corio's impulse on 'impact measurement' in his practice as a design professor.

René Spitz, board member of the iF Design Foundation and professor of media design at the Rheinische Fachhochschule Köln, explores Larry Corio's impact measurement and draws on the high value of 'how we actually measure the effect of what we're doing'. He explains how to figure out: What is the effect? What is the result? And what is the trigger? Watch the full video to hear what Spitz has to say about Corio's measurement techniques, which Corio also uses at the world's leading design and innovation firm, IDEO.

RETAIL DESIGN: Create a shopping experience

In retail design, you'll be involved in designing and optimizing retail spaces to create an appealing and customer-friendly shopping experience. It is a multidisciplinary field that combines aspects of graphic design, interior design, brand identity, and retail psychology.

You will design the interiors of stores and retail spaces to ensure efficient use of space and an attractive appearance. You will also develop creative concepts to communicate a company's brand identity and message through store design. As a retail designer, you will strategically arrange products and displays to increase visibility and sales. Creating a pleasant atmosphere and considering the needs of customers is key. Modern retail designers integrate technology, such as interactive displays or mobile apps, to enhance the shopping experience.

Retail designers must understand customer needs, preferences, and behaviors to develop successful concepts. Knowledge of interior design, 3D modeling and design software is an advantage. A good sense of current trends in design, fashion and retail helps to develop contemporary concepts.

As a retail designer, you will find employment at retail chains, boutiques and shopping centers to design their retail spaces. There are also specialized agencies that focus on retail design and brand staging. Alternatively, you can work as a freelance retail designer and accept commissions from various companies.

If we have peaked your interest, check out the retail design study programs at our new STUDY PROGRAM FINDER: https://lnkd.in/ebSFGUAH
