A partner of ARRIVES, EAPEAN is the association of licensed job agencies in Nigeria and promotes fair recruitment among its members.

In this video, its Executive Secretary Jide Afolabi shares how licensed agencies work and what companies in Nigeria look for when they hire.

“We believe that you have the right skillsets and that is what the companies in Nigeria are looking for.”

ARRIVES provides Nigerians who decide to come back from Germany one-to-one coaching to learn a new skill, join an apprenticeship, and prepare their CVs and job interviews. We then link them with partners such as EAPEAN to help them find work that matches their skills.

Stephan Okoro has been farming since he was a boy in Nigeria. After studying in Italy and working in Germany for close to nine years, he decided to come back to Nigeria this year.

Today, he has his own farm—which he set up with his own savings and support from ARRIVES—where he rears pigs and grows vegetables to feed them.

Next for Stephan: he hopes to build a 39-room farmhouse for his animals and plants.

Stephan lived and worked in Germany for eight to nine years. This year, after three to four years of planning, he decided to return to Nigeria and set up his own farm. He made that decision even though many people in Germany tried to talk him out of it.

"In my country, I can invest. I can do my farming."

With guidance from his ARRIVES business coaches, he now runs a two-acre farm in Ogun State, where he raises pigs and cows.

"This business cannot hold your money. I have many customers here," says Samuel Ofofo, who runs a foodstuff stall in Ekwuoma, Nigeria.

He came back after 15 years in Europe and opened it with business coaching from ARRIVES, selling garri, noodles and canned tomatoes. His son Onyeka helps at weekends.

"I learnt a lot of things. That's why I chose this business," Samuel says.

ARRIVES is a voluntary programme for Nigerians in Germany who are thinking of coming home. We explain what support is there, and we offer one-to-one coaching to help you find a job or start your own business back home.

"Nobody make the decision for me." After years in Germany, John decided to return to Lagos, where he now runs a barber shop, Cherish Ventures Hair Stylist, with his fiancée, Chioma.

We visited them again this year to see how they are doing. John reflects on his decision to return, and Chioma tells you how life is for them now.

In this final clip of our series, they reflect on how their own experience of arriving in Germany shapes the way they work with Nigerians who are considering return.

Esther still remembers what she missed most: her family, the community, even the weather in Nigeria. Wilson sees a common thread connecting him and the people he coaches: that everyone is trying to do what is best for themselves and their families.
