Pambansang Araw ng mga Migranteng Manggagawa o “Migrant Workers’ Day”

Pagdiriwang o Patuloy na Pagsasamantala?

[Fil] (see German below)

Juni zum „Migrant Workers’ Day“ erklärt.

DENOUNCE THE SENATE COUP!
PROCEED WITH SARA DUTERTE’S IMPEACHMENT TRIAL!
ARREST BATO DELA ROSA!

The Philippine Senate has once again revealed itself to be a political circus, where political elites can use various means to consolidate their power and wealth, while the Filipino people continue to suffer from crushing poverty and hardship.

On May 11, several senators aligned with former president Rodrigo Duterte—who is currently facing trial for crimes against humanity at the ICC—successfully staged a coup to oust sitting Senate President Tito Sotto and to replace him with long-time Duterte ally Alan Peter Cayetano. Clearly, this coup was orchestrated because the House of Representatives was set to vote that same day on the articles of impeachment against Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte. Positioning Cayetano as Senate President would mean that he would be the one presiding over any possible impeachment proceedings.

Indeed, as the coup was unfolding, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Sara Duterte based on well-founded allegations of high-level corruption, making this the second time that she has been impeached during her term. However, with Cayetano in place, it is difficult to imagine how a fair and genuine impeachment trial could take place, if it takes place at all.

Meanwhile, former police chief and current senator Bato dela Rosa returned to the Senate floor after several months of absence in order to place his vote in support of the coup. Moments later, the ICC confirmed a warrant for his arrest, due to his central role in executing the “drug war” that killed tens of thousands of Filipinos under Rodrigo Duterte’s presidency. As NBI agents proceeded to the Senate building to carry out the arrest, the newly installed Senate President Cayetano approved a motion to place dela Rosa under Senate protective custody. The Philippine Senate is now effectively shielding a fugitive responsible for crime against humanity.

May Day 2026 Statement 📣💥
Following our mobilization at the Lindaviabrunnen in Lindau this May Day, Migrante Germany issues this statement to reflect on the core message shared with the community and to reaffirm our unwavering demands for justice and dignity through our Free the Migrants campaign.

The Reality of Migrant Labor
We shared the story of a mother who arrived from the Philippines in the 1990s, working in factories for less than five euros an hour under grueling piece-rate conditions. This story is not an isolated case; it is the daily reality for many in Germany, hidden behind the image of cosmopolitanism, which cities like Lindau represent.

The Philippines and the Export of Labor
The Philippines serves as a stark global example of this systemic issue, as one of the world’s leading countries in labor export. For decades, the Philippine state has actively promoted the migration of its citizens as a primary economic development model. While the remittances from „Overseas Filipino Workers“ (OFWs) are hailed as the „backbone of the nation,“ this model comes at a devastating social cost. Families are fractured across generations, and workers are often funneled into precarious, low-wage sectors abroad with minimal legal protection. This is not just migration; it is a forced economic necessity that commodifies human labor for global markets.

A Global Struggle
With over 280 million people working outside their home countries worldwide, migrant workers are a central pillar of the global economy. In Germany alone, 200,000 foreign-born workers sustain the healthcare sector, while countless others drive our logistics, construction, and agriculture. They produce the wealth of this country, yet they are systematically pushed into a sub-class of the working-class.
This is why we are waging a campaign to build solidarity amongst migrant workers. We must grow our consciousness and reinforce the working-class struggle against imperialist globalisation.

Our Demands

On May Day 2026, Migrante Germany, ALPAS Pilipinas, Gabriela Germany, and Bayan Germany will march under the banner of “Free the Migrants,” as part of a global campaign that seeks to build migrant working class power in opposition to imperialism and fascism. In line with the “Free the Migrants” campaign, we plan to carry the following demands:

We demand the freedom to live and work for all migrants in Germany and the EU.
We call for the rejection of the so-called “Return Regulation” being negotiated at the EU level, a new legal framework that will further criminalize migrants and violate our basic human rights. Migrants are not a problem to be managed or a crisis to be contained.

We demand accessible housing and social services for all.
We have seen the intensifying housing crises in Berlin and other cities across Europe, as well as funding cuts to healthcare, education, culture, and other social services. While this affects the entire population of these places, migrants suffer the worse impacts, as our access to housing and social services is already hindered by racist and discriminatory practices, highly confusing bureaucracy, and lack of awareness of legal rights.

We demand fair wages and humane working conditions for migrants and for all workers.
Migrant workers constitute an underclass within the working class of Europe, concentrated in low-wage sectors such as agriculture, construction, care work, logistics, and informal services. Exclusion from full social and political rights leaves migrants vulnerable to greater forms of exploitation. We call on all workers in Germany and across the EU to stand behind the migrant struggle as a core component of the larger working class struggle.

We demand the freedom to unite, to organize, and to protest.
It is imperative that migrants and other working people push back against the state’s repressive tactics here in Germany and elsewhere in the EU. We cannot allow rampant surveillance, police brutality, house raids, unjust arrests, and deportation threats to be normalized.

Statement on the recent US-Israeli war of agression against Iran

Migrante International denounces in the strongest terms the illegal acts of aggression instigated by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28.

Deceitfully portraying Iran as an “aggressor” and as a “threat” to peace in the region, US and Israeli leaders justify their bombardment and military strikes in the sovereign country. In truth, they are placing millions of Iranians, West Asians, migrants, and OFWs at mortal risk. The conflict in West Asia is perpetrated by the US, the real menace and threat to peace. Their central interests lie in advancing its dominance and control of rich resources in the region.

We stand firmly in solidarity with the people of Iran, who have long resisted US imperialist attacks. They continue to fight against impositions of sanctions and wars of intervention that have caused the systematic impoverishment and suffering of millions of people for decades. We support their just struggle to defend their nation against foreign aggressors and to assert their self-determination and sovereignty.

The safety and lives of more than 2 million OFWs and Filipino migrants working and living in the West Asia region are now threatened. OFWs in the region have expressed fear, anxiety, and uncertainty as they hear the deafening sounds of airstrikes and bombs. Also at risk are the the livelihoods of thousands more OFWs bound to leave the Philippines and begin their contracts to work.

Filipinos across the globe must reject any attempt by the Marcos Jr. government to downplay yet again the conflict in the region and its impact on our OFWs and the Filipino people. We must demand the Marcos Jr. government to act now. Marcos must protect and provide immediate assistance to all OFWs who will be affected. The administration must implement measures to regularly communicate and disseminate important information, secure safe and accessible shelters, evacuation centers and transportation routes and vehicles, and provide immediate medical and livelihood assistance, rescue and reintegration assistance.

Moreover, the longstanding demands of OFWs to scrap the Labor Export Program of the Philippine government and create long-term jobs with living wages in the Philippines must be seriously and urgently addressed. We must protect millions of Filipinos each year from leaving their families and communities and risking their lives in dangerous and exploitative conditions overseas.

We call on Filipinos overseas denounce and oppose the Marcos Jr. regime’s collusion and continued subservience to the interests of the US. The regime's puppetry endangers the lives of our people. Marcos disregards our sovereignty by allow the expansion of US military bases in the country, the deployment and storage of dangerous weapons, and the regularization of military war exercises in the country. We note how the same presence of US military forces and bases in countries where there are significant number of OFWs, such as the Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan, also threatens the safety of our kababayans.

As OFWs and Filipinos overseas, let us stand in solidarity with all peoples and nations asserting for genuine independence and freedom, just peace, and demand an end to all imperialist wars.

Fight US Imperialism!
Stop the US-Israeli war of agression against Iran!
Defend the right of all peoples to self-determination!
