Hunger for Trade

Hunger for Trade »Hunger for Trade« is a global theatre network exploring the international food market and developing a theatrical approach to global social questions.

Plundered supermarkets, fields on fire, grain elevators with Greenpeace activists guarding them, observed by a bewildered population and dozens of camera men, fitness farms and advisory centres for eating disorders, slaughterhouses, in which Romanian casual labourers cut pigs for 4 € an hour, refugees fighting fiercely against the local people for the right to use the dried out fields....

„Hunger

for Trade“ is an international theatre network in which authors and directors from different regions of the world establish a dialogue about the problems and perspectives of the global food market. The starting point of their collaboration is a four-day conference, where the 9 theatre teams meet, coordinate themselves, get to know each other and the specialists from the different faculties, who will accompany them. In the following months every artistic team will conduct individual research in their country and carry out interviews with the affected people - farmers and consumers, politicians and investors, shipowners, butchers and grocers. The emerging archive will form the source and base for the nine different theatre productions arising in Burkina Faso, India, South Africa, Brazil, Romania, England, Belgium, Switzerland and in Germany. Beyond the premieres at the different home theatres, all production will be presented in a specifically designed form at the partner theatres, be it a scenic reading of the colleagues, be it a video- or soundinstallation or streamed live.
„Hunger for Trade“ sees itself as a theatrical experiment, which is exemplarily attempting an intercultural dialogue of civil societies - without which a pacification in the war of foods seems virtually impossible. For more information about the project see:
