As a result sustainable living that was once a way of life, with overproduction and therefore over-consumption has created a dis-balance that has severed this tie. Add to Zero is a venture that hopes to revive and strengthen that tie. We at Add to Zero, believe in an integrative approach to sustainability, where people, planet and profit is measured as a single process. Today we live in a paradox.
On one hand, we know that life in nature is cyclic where animals and plants lead a “Zero” impact life and on the other hand we humans live in a world of linear systems, where from resource excavation to consumption and disposal are linear rather than circular or regenerative. Considering that we are increasingly becoming an urban species, where 70% of 9 billion people are going to live in cities by 2050, fundamentals like clean water, energy, waste management and food that we take for granted today, might not be a given by 2050. Human intervention and consumption have impacted rapid depletion of natural resources, shortage of clean water and energy for an ever growing population also manifesting in global warming, climate change and species extinction faster than the natural rate. Thus we believe it is our collective responsibility to emulate nature and find alternative ways to go “towards zero impact” on nature by virtue of our way of living. At “Add to Zero” we envisage to bring in an integral approach where we lead a life towards “zero carbon” “zero energy” and “zero waste” by zeroing our impact on nature. We acknowledge that the very act of living can never be an absolute zero, hence conscientious living that veers “towards zero” is what we can aspire for. At Add to Zero, we believe change begins by first bringing a collective awareness on the challenges faced today with an inclusive effort by all. At the same time, we acknowledge the interconnectedness of issues that surround us today. Hence our proposition is to adopt an integral approach by connecting available alternatives with the end user. Simultaneously, we aim to address the multifaceted elements of sustainability from water, energy, waste to food and materials, in Adding towards Zero.
