SONEC (SOciocratic NEighborhood Circles)

SONEC (SOciocratic NEighborhood Circles) was a 26 month-long Erasmus+ project – funded by the EU’s “KA2 – Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices / KA204 – Strategic Partnerships for adult education” program – that addresses serious social and environmental issues by applying neighborhood-based, bottom-up, participatory and inclusive decision making processes. SONEC is an inn

ovative idea inspired by the Neighbourhood Parliaments’ socio-political model, successfully implemented in India since the 1990s. Here, more than 400.000 neighbourhood-based citizen groups have been established to help their national and local governments reach the SDG goals, by addressing issues such as climate change, human rights, health, poverty and gender equality, among others. The European Commission’s support for the production of this publication does not constitute an endorsement of the contents, which reflect the views only of the authors, and the Commission cannot be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein.

After 26 months of on line and offline meetings, research, interviews, brainstorming sessions and trainings, the SONEC partnership is proud to share with you the results of our very hard work: the SONEC Handbook, an easy to read manual on the opportunities and challenges of implementing neighbourhood circles that can support, by applying sociocratic decision-making processes, the realisation of the SDGs and EU values in Europe.

a suitable concept for SONEC. We work in circles, double linked to the general upper circle, we have a clear agenda, we take decisions through picture forming, opinion rounds and a final consent…
and above all we enjoy collaborating to create together a better world!

Day 2 of our second LTTA in Budapest, a full day of intensive training on how neighbourhood parliaments, sociocracy and other participatory governance models can transform the toxic power we constantly live in, in healthy, regenerative power for active citizens and transformative communities.
Thanks to our off line trainer Nate, and online tutor Joseph, a large number of SONEC participant are now certified as SONEC facilitators. Congratulations to us!
