Umodzi wa a Malawi in Germany e.V is a registered non-profit association, with recognized charitable status under German tax law.

Serving as a bridge between cultures, fostering unity among Malawians in Germany while promoting sustainable development and cultural exchange between both nations We are dedicated to fostering a strong, supportive community for Malawians living in Germany, strengthening the cultural and developmental ties between both nations. Our Core Objectives include:

Promoting International Understanding. E

ncouraging tolerance, intercultural dialogue, and cultural exchange between communities. Development Cooperation
Supporting impactful partnerships and projects that contribute to sustainable development and to Malawi’s growth and development strategy. Civic Engagement
Promoting volunteerism and social responsibility for the common good. Community Building
Creating a platform where Malawians in Germany can connect, collaborate, and thrive. What We Do:

Host networking forums and events for social, educational, scientific, and cultural exchange. Organize cultural, educational, and business events to celebrate Malawian heritage and success stories. Facilitate knowledge and technology transfer, including intergenerational sharing of values and experiences. Send relief supplies and support charitable initiatives that benefit communities in Malawi.

Across Borders 2026: A Successful Collaboration for Dialogue, Solidarity and Diversity

The International Film Festival Series Hannover 2026 was a great success, bringing together diverse communities to promote dialogue, peace, and mutual understanding through cinamatic journeys across the Global South. Pictured is Mada (middle-front) representing Umodzi wa a Malawi in Germany e.V., together with other partner representatives, highlighting the strong spirit of cooperation behind the festival.

The film series is a joint event of Ev.-luth. Missionswerk in Niedersachsen, Freundeskreis Malawi und Städtepartnerschaft Hannover-Blantyre e.V., GAAKT e. V. - German African Association for Knowledge TransferT, der zwei Nile, Niedersachsen.GLOBAL, Palästina Initiative Region Hannover, Südamerika-Zentrum Hannover e.V., Umodzi wa a Malawi in Germany, and Niedersächsische Bildungsinitiativen e.V., funded by Niedersächsische Bingo-Umweltstiftung, Niedersachsen, and Global with funds from BMZ.

10 March.
Umodzi, represented by its Secretary General Grenna (far right), participated in a luncheon in Berlin celebrating His Excellency Mpinganjira (second from left), Ambassador of the Republic of Malawi to Germany.

The event was held at the Foreign Affairs offices and hosted by the Head of Sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel, Frau Gesa Bräutigam. It brought together representatives of organisations that have worked with the Ambassador in various areas, as well as groups with links to or interest in Malawi. The Zambian Ambassador was also in attendance.

Across Borders - International Film Series Hannover 2026
Conflicts, war and destruction shape the way we see the world. Yet people everywhere are resisting violence, injustice and exclusion. In this series, we cross borders and envision peace, reconciliation and justice in a fragmented world.

In the second edition of our international film series, we show movies and documentary films that portray exactly this, and open us to new perspectives.

We invite you to film trips across Brazil, Sudan, Venezuela, Palestine, Malawi, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Senegal and Colombia.

On 6 December, 2025, We were honoured to participate in a vibrant intercultural networking event hosted by the iconic AFRO HAUS! 🎉✨

The Afro-Connect gathering brought together creatives, professionals, and community leaders to celebrate African art, culture, and heritage in Germany. It served as a powerful platform for dialogue, collaboration, and cultural pride.

As part of our mission to promote diaspora unity, visibility, and intercultural exchange, we proudly introduced our work to attendees, building meaningful connections and expanding our network with like-minded individuals and organisations.

Events like these reaffirm the importance of strong diaspora partnerships in advancing community empowerment and shared development goals.
