HIGHLAND BROADSWORD WORKSHOP & CAMP at the Milseburg, Hesse, Germany, 24–27 September 2027

Following the premiere of our event, we—the members of the re-enactment group *La compagnie des grenadiers du régiment Royal Écossois*—are delighted to invite you to our historical camp at the foot of the Milseburg.

A key feature of our event is a workshop focusing on combat using the Highland broadsword as the primary weapon and the targe (shield) as the secondary weapon. The session will be led by our member Heiko Große, Trainer at "Triskelion Armed Combat" and Full Instructor with the "Cateran Society".

Drawing on the techniques found in 18th-century fencing manuals—methods used by both civilian and military fencers that share strong parallels with the fighting styles of most regiments of that era—the workshop begins with the fundamental principles of sword handling, upon which we will build as the session progresses. Beginners and experienced fighters alike, whether from the world of sport fencing or historical reenactment, are warmly welcome.

The participation fee is €45.00 per person. We ask all participants to wear historically appropriate clothing corresponding to the period from 1740 to 1763. Please note that the event is also open to day visitors; they may participate in everyday clothing. As the number of participants is limited, please register promptly by emailing: [email protected]

Further information regarding the venue, travel, the daily schedule, rules, and camp life will follow in due course; registered participants will receive these details via email.

Come visit our historical camp in the beautiful Rhön region. We look forward to seeing you! ❤️

SOME IMPRESSIONS from our historical camp and workshop at the Milseburg, Germany, 19–21 July 2026

An utterly relaxing event for all participants—like a journey back in time to 18th-century Scotland. We enjoyed cozy evenings by the fireplace and hearty breakfasts after a restful night, followed by two incredibly enriching workshop sessions shared with old and new friends: sword-and-shield fencing and drill exercises—open not only to members of our group but also to any interested individuals who joined us.

We extend our sincere thanks to our member Heiko Große of *Highland Broadsword* and *Triskelion Armed Combat*, who led the "Highland Broadsword & Targe" workshop. We also thank Matteo Marti, who made the long journey from Ferrara, Italy, to join us. Many thanks also to everyone who was involved and made this event possible. To be continued ...

HIGHLAND BROADSWORD WORKSHOP & CAMP at the Milseburg, Hesse, Germany, 19-21 July 2026

We, the members of the re-enactment group *La compagnie des grenadiers du régiment Royal Écossois*, invite you to a workshop focusing on combat with the Highland Broadsword as a primary weapon and the targe (shield) as a secondary weapon.

The workshop will take place within the setting of a historical encampment and will be led by one of our members, Heiko Große (Trainer at Triskelion Combat & Full Instructor at the Cateran Society).

Based on the fencing manuals of renowned 18th-century masters—techniques utilized by both civilian and military fencers, and which bear strong parallels to the combat styles of most 18th-century regiments—this workshop will begin by focusing on the fundamental principles of swordsmanship, upon which we will subsequently build. Beginners and experienced fighters alike—whether from the world of competitive fencing or historical reenactment—are warmly welcome to attend.

The participation fee is €45.00 per person. Participation in the workshop is possible even without period attire (i.e., in normal clothing) and is open to day guests. Due to a limited number of available spots, we kindly request that you register promptly via the following email address: [email protected]

Further information regarding the location, directions, daily schedule, rules and regulations, and camp life will be provided in due course; these details will be communicated to registered participants via email.

We look forward to seeing you there!

CULLODEN COMMEMORATION with members of our re-enactment group, Drumossie Muir, Scotland, 18 April 2026

The service marking the 280th anniversary of the Battle of Culloden was our very first event since our group, La compagnie des grenadiers du régiment Royal Écossois, was founded. It was a tremendous honor for us to lay a wreath in memory of the Royal Ecossais regiment.

We extend our sincere thanks to our families, who made this fantastic journey possible; to our generous and noble hosts, Clan Donald; and, last but not least, to the friends we met at the ceremony, whose presence alone made the experience unforgettable. We also offer special thanks to the Gaelic Society of Inverness and the National Trust for Scotland for hosting and organizing this unique and historically significant event.

TEARLACH MOR AN DIONADAIR MAC DHOMHNAILL serves as a Grenadier in the Régiment Royal Écossois.

Just like his chieftain, Grianain—whom he serves as bodyguard—, he is a high-ranking Highland gentleman hailing from the lands of the Glengarry on the Knoydart peninsula.

Renowned for loyalty, prudence, and daring in battle—whether with words or the sword—he fights with unwavering resolve, and in that very order, for his own kin and for the Bonnie Prince.

GRÁINNE ÚI SHÚILLEABHÁIN is the Sergeant‘s Wife and accompanies him as the regiment marches on.

Hailing from the coast of Kerry, this graceful lady stands faithfully by her husband's side, blessed with modesty and a heart in the right place.

As a seasoned woman in the camp train, she has witnessed many a battle and—versed in the healing arts—contributes to the regiment's successes in her own way.
