Adding a Russian version to our Yakshagana in Europe documentary is an important step in taking this traditional art form to a wider global audience. Presenting the documentary in local languages helps bridge cultural gaps and allows audiences to connect more deeply with the history, emotion, and artistic richness of Yakshagana.

By making the film accessible in Russian, we hope to reach new viewers across Europe and beyond, encouraging greater appreciation for Indian folk traditions and fostering meaningful cultural exchange. Local-language storytelling transforms a regional art form into a truly global experience.

Why Yakshagana in English?

To make any art form global, it must reach people beyond its native language without losing its soul. Yakshagana is not just about vibrant costumes, makeup, music, and dance — its real strength lies in its powerful storytelling, impromptu dialogues, humour, and the way it connects epic stories with current social trends to keep audiences engaged for hours.

Presenting Yakshagana in English is a meaningful step towards introducing this authentic art form to the world. In this performance by Yakshadhruva Europe at an Indian Embassy event in Belgium, audiences from different cultures could enjoy the humour, follow the story, and appreciate the depth of Yakshagana.

While the dialogues were presented in English, the traditional essence of Yakshagana — its music, costumes, makeup, dance, and performance style — remained completely authentic.

A proud milestone for Yakshagana in Europe!

For the first time in Belgium, a full Yakshagana prasanga, Hanumarjuna – Shara Sethu Bandha, was presented entirely with dialogues in English, enabling non-Kannada audiences and local Europeans to fully follow, understand, and enjoy the performance.

The audience enthusiastically connected with the powerful storytelling, expressive dialogues, humour, vibrant dance movements, and the grandeur of the colourful traditional costumes. It was a remarkable experience to witness European audiences appreciating the depth and beauty of Yakshagana while understanding every moment of the story in English.

After successfully presenting Yakshagana in German, this marks yet another major achievement by Yakshadhruva Europe in introducing the rich traditional art form of Yakshagana to global audiences while preserving its authenticity and traditional essence.

The performance retained the original Yakshagana spirit through traditional costumes and original Kannada background recordings by renowned Yakshagana Bhagavathas, including Ramakrishna Hegde Hillur, while the live dialogues were delivered in English in true Yakshagana style.

This innovative presentation has opened the doors for many new international audiences to experience and appreciate the timeless beauty of Yakshagana.

Yakshagana Poorvaranga - Peetike Sthree Vesha.

A beautiful part of this legacy art was witnessed in the Poorvaranga - Peetike Sthree Vesha performance by our young artists "Khushi Shenoy" and "Snigdha Chauhan".

Art is Traditionally passed down through generations, Yakshagana is not just an art form but a cultural inheritance. Seeing young talents embrace this tradition, especially in portraying Sthree Vesha – the graceful and expressive female roles – is both inspiring and heartwarming.

Yakshagana Poorvaranaga helps young children learn and perform Yakshagana in a traditional way. It gives them a chance to understand and practice Tala, Expressions and acting, which requires dedication. Their interest and hard work show that Yakshagana is still alive and growing, thanks to the younger generation learning it from an early age.
