The EBHA is pleased to share the Call for Papers for the 8th Workshop on Business History in Central and Eastern Europe (WBHCEE), organised by the Institute of History at Charles University in Prague in cooperation with the European Business History Association.

📍 Prague
📅 24–25 September 2026

This year’s theme is “Financing Business in the History of Central and Eastern Europe.” The workshop welcomes contributions that explore the historical development of business finance in the region from a range of disciplinary perspectives.

🗓 Submission deadline: 17 April 2026

Proposals should include:
• an abstract (max. 600 words) outlining the research question and conceptual framework
• a short academic CV (max. two paragraphs)

Accepted participants will be invited to submit an extended abstract or full paper ahead of the workshop.

📢 Call for Applications: 13th EBHA Franco Amatori Doctoral Summer School (2026)

The European Business History Association (EBHA), together with the French Business History Association (AFHE) and with the support of the Fondation Maison de Salins, invites applications for the 13th EBHA Franco Amatori Doctoral Summer School.

📍 Location: Salins-les-Bains (Jura, France)
📅 Dates: 6–11 September 2026
🎓 Theme: Transitions and Variety of Business Organizations in European Capitalism

The Summer School is aimed at doctoral students in business history and related fields who wish to deepen their engagement with current theoretical, methodological, and empirical debates. It offers an intensive and collegial environment where participants present their dissertation projects, receive structured feedback from leading international scholars, and exchange ideas with peers from across Europe and beyond.

The programme combines faculty lectures and seminars with student presentations. Each participant will present their research project, including research questions, methodology, sources, challenges, and preliminary findings.

Accommodation (shared rooms) and meals will be covered by the organisers. Participants are responsible for their own travel costs. Enrollment is limited to 15 doctoral students.

📣 EBHA doctoral travel grants to attend the 2026 WCBH in Toronto 🗺️

The European Business History Association (EBHA) announces 3 grants to assist in the travel costs of PhD candidates from Europe, planning to present a paper at the 3rd World Congress of Business History at Toronto in July 2026.

Eligible applicants must 1) be enrolled as PhD candidate at a European university; 2) have their paper accepted by the program committee; 3) be (or become) a member of the EBHA; and, 4) have no or limited access to institutional funding, confirmation of which should be provided in a letter from the supervisor. Grants are capped at 500 euros per successful applicant.

Deadline for applications is 15 December 2025. Applications, including a letter from the supervisor confirming eligibility, should be sent to the EBHA Secretary, dr. Valentina Fava (secretary[at]ebha.org). Successful applicants will be notified once the program committee has announced the program.

The World Congress of Business History is a joint initiative of the European Business History Association, the Business History Conference, and the Business History Society of Japan, in collaboration with business historians from other regions. It provides a global meeting place for business historians from all continents, and offers PhD students a unique opportunity to showcase their research for a global audience and meet fellow students and senior scholars from across the world.

The 7th Workshop on Business History in Central and Eastern Europe is approaching! This year's workshop focuses on business and the natural environment, and it is hosted by the Institute of Contemporary History, Ljubljana, 23-24 October 2025.
