Today, Lama Ole Nydahl had a private audience with HH the Gyalwa Karmapa, Sangyum la and their family at Karmapa International Buddhist Institute. In particular, Lama Ole‘s visit was to meet and pay his respect to the Thugsey la.

Here we share a glimpse of that special moment:

A Story of Devotion

A Story of Devotion

Let me tell you a story of devotion and dedication. This man here, Lama Ole Nydahl has been essentially touring the world and spreading the teachings of the Buddha non-stop for the past forty plus years. This is a man who has forgone the normalcy of a mundane existence in search of ways to help and inspire others, while at the same time drafting the master plans for a worldwide family Sangha unlike anything the world has ever seen. His naturally arising abundant energy mixing with inherent wisdom curated over decades has blossomed into an entirely new way of teaching the Dharma, for the western world there is simply no-one else doing what he is doing, or coming remotely close to what he has done for modern Buddhism. I invite you to take a look for yourself and see what an amazing Sangha has grown from this plan of his, a plan of leading by example and of powerful wishes made across a full and expansive life serving others.

Here I see dedicated practitioners and newly sprouted families coming together. I see babies next to punk rock tattooed fellows basking in the same warmth and nurturing atmosphere that brings us all here. Couples in warm embrace, yogic meditators engaged in their fourth Ngundro, young and old, wild but sovereign, from all corners of the globe it seems to be a grand melting pot of all things possible gathered in one hall. And sitting up on stage for endless sessions to appease the needs and desires of them all is Ole - continuously taking questions, guiding meditations, and teaching line by line The Great Seal of Mahamudra with his own unique wit and humor sprinkled throughout. Sure he’s not for everyone, he says so himself all the time - but that’s his gift. Who else could bring all these different people together, to make all feel welcome no matter their uniqueness. This is Ole’s true legacy. We are all the family of the Karma Kamstang. This is his story of dedication and devotion. Welcome to Vienna my friends, with thousands gathered this is yet another stop on the grand roller coaster ride that is Diamond Way - with your hilarious, outrageous, generous, subtly mischievous, wild, free, brave, soft yet sturdy, tender yet bold -and always shockingly present conductor Lama Ole Nydhal.
